Topological insulators and magnetic order
Šebesta, Jakub ; Carva, Karel (advisor) ; Hamrle, Jaroslav (referee) ; Železný, Jakub (referee)
The occurrence of various defects can strongly influence the physical properties of real materials. Depending on their type, new outstanding features can arise, but also charac- teristic behavior might be lost. This thesis is dedicated to the impact of diverse disorder's presence on the physical behavior of three-dimensional topological insulators, namely, the well-known Bi2Se3 compound. Despite possessing a band gap in the bulk, these materials host unique metallic surface states protected by the time-reversal symmetry. Thus, the surface states are robust against perturbation, which respects the protecting symmetry. Breaking the symmetry, e.g. by the magnetic field, can open the surface gaps. In this work, the influence of the magnetic as well as native chemical defects, occurring in the real samples, on the electronic structure is described. Notably, the dispersion of the sur- face metallic states is followed up. Since the surface gap can be opened by the magnetic field, magnetic exchange interactions and related Curie temperatures of magnetic defects are thoroughly studied. Particularly, the influence of disorder on the character of the exchange interactions and related Curie temperatures is described. Dealing with layered systems, the behavior of planar defects might be inspected. Therefore, the...

Electronic Structure and Magnetic Properties of Antiferromagnetic Semiconductors and Metals
Železný, Jakub ; Jungwirth, Tomáš (advisor) ; Carva, Karel (referee) ; Gomonay, Helen (referee)
Antiferromagnets are common in nature and just like ferromagnets posses a long-range magnetic order. They have found little practical application so far, be- cause the magnetic order in antiferromagnets is hard to detect and to manipulate by external magnetic fields. This has become less of a problem due to the development of spintronics, which has motivated a new interest in antiferromagnets. In this thesis we first theoretically study the electronic and magnetic structure of certain class of antiferromagnetic compounds, which are related to common semiconductors. In the second part we focus on electrical manipulation of antiferromagnets. We show that the so-called spin-orbit torque, which has been studied extensively in ferromagnets, can efficiently manipulate the antiferromagnetic order. We calculate the spin-orbit torque in several antiferromagnets and study the symmetry of the spin-orbit torque in detail. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Comparative analyses of television shows Zpívá celá rodina vs Česko hledá Superstar
Kopecká, Elizabeth ; Železný, Jakub (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with a comparative analysis of two singing competitions, Zpívá celá rodina and Česko hledá Superstar. The comparison is based on the analysis of the shows Zpívá celá rodina and Česko hledá Superstar. Since the analysed television singing competitions were broadcast in different eras, significant differences between the two television shows can be observed. The theoretical part deals with television entertainment, the definition of television singing contest formats, as well as the description of media audiences and television fans. The thesis includes a brief description of the TV music shows and singing competitions that were available on the domestic market. The following comparative analysis is based on comparing the two mentioned singing competitions. The thesis presents the findings that the different eras contributed significantly to the form of the television singing competitions and also had a considerable influence on the preferences of the television audience. The thesis also provides a rationale as to why the the above mentioned shows were so popular with television audiences and whether the concept of Zpívá celá rodina could still be successful today. This justification is supported by comments by music experts and personal experience of participating in the...
Ethics of war journalism: ethical dilemmas and strategies for solving them through the eyes of a war journalist
Štegmannová, Tereza Anna ; Železný, Jakub (advisor) ; Jirák, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the topic of war journalism. The main aim of the work was to explore specific ethical quandaries that war correspondents face and how they approach them. In countries where conflict is taking places, war correspondents are under incessant pressure and they witness disasters, suffering and death. At the same time, they are under pressure from the media - their employers - to provide immediate information which should evoke the most intense emotions. Together with this issue, war correspondents also have to face scrunity coming from the public. The empirical part employs a qualitative research approach, more specifically in-depth semi-structured interviews conducted with seven prominent figures of the czech war journalism field. The research proves that the war correspondents'approach towards ethical quandaries is affected by two aspects - motivation to elaborate the topic of war and the economical situation of media and journalists as well. At the same time, five fields of the most frequent ethical quandaries war correspondents may encounter were defined - objectivity, engagement, work with the information, social networking services and emotions.
Operation Neptun - the turning point in perceiving the Czechoslovak television as communistic instrument of propaganda
Červená, Adéla ; Železný, Jakub (advisor) ; Suk, Pavel (referee)
- version - Adéla Červená This bachelor thesis focuses on the ground-breaking importance of the Operace Neptun in the perception of the media impact of Czechoslovak Television (ČST) by the communist regimes. Until this moment, this Operation is the only known case of the misuse of ČST before year 1968 as a tool of the contemporary propaganda and spreading of disinformation. The Czechoslovak intelligence has taken the advantage of the shooting of the show Zvědavá kamera from 1964 on the topic of the secrets of the Šumava lakes. In advance of the arrival of the publicists, they have placed boxes of allegedly Nazi documents on the bottom of the Černé jezero. The highlight of the Operation was the press conference led by the Interior Minister Lubomír Štrougal in September 1964. Would the lead actor of the Operation, Ladislav Bittman, not have emigrated, the truth would have potentially never been revealed. After the period of the Prague spring, with the rise of the normalization, the abuse of ČST as the transmitter of the current propaganda became a common practice. This work focuses on two shows of the given era - Causa Jan Masaryk and Svědectví od Seiny. The communist regime used these shows to settle the accounts with chosen representatives of the Prague spring and painted their own version of the...
The Role of The TV News Anchorman/woman. The Comparative Analysis Between Public and Commercial Television
Baráková, Tereza ; Železný, Jakub (advisor) ; Groman, Martin (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the role of a television news anchorman/woman. It focuses on the origin of the anchorman, the main and characteristic professional prerequisites, and the differences between the anchormen of public and commercial television. The primary role of the moderator is to inform about current events. But in the same time be objective, neutral, and trustworthy, and leave a way expressing one's own emotions. However, these values may differ as to the television broadcasting system. As part of his role in television, they can be a suitable element in media self-presentation. The thesis focuses on work with commercial and public television, analyses the emotional and professional aspects of his work and his contribution to the creation of news programs. The research is also carried out among the public, which enables the main characteristics and functions of moderators.
The Media Image of State Security in the Rudé právo and Svobodné slovo dailies (November 1989 - June 1990)
Vávra, Martin ; Železný, Jakub (advisor) ; Růžička, Daniel (referee)
The bachelor's thesis titled "The Media Image of State Security in the Rudé právo and Svobodné slovo dailies (November 1989-June 1990)" discusses the media's image of the State Security Organisation (StB) over a period of several months following the events of the 17th of November 1989, when the communist regime in Czechoslovakia fell. The dailies analysed for this study were Rudé právo and Svobodné slovo. The periodicals were selected according to their political orientations. Rudé právo, described as "a paper published by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia", was a daily that officially represented the governing regime. Svobodné slovo, which began publishing the first uncensored information in November 1989 and called the "primary daily" of the Velvet Revolution, was selected as its opposite counterpart. This work has four chapters. The first chapter examines the State Security Organisation and its history, organisational structure, methods and manner of work in 1989. The second chapter presents the selected dailies Rudé právo and Svobodné slovo. The third chapter discusses the methodology of the entire work, and the final chapter contains research on the selected dailies in the form of a quantitative content analysis.

The bachelor thesis Medial depictions of band Tři sestry from its foundation to the present shows, how was the band portrayed throughout its history in mainstream media either mass and music or internet, printed and audiovisual. Specifically, the media has been selected so that each of them falls into a particular category, and can therefore be compared in different media types. These were MF DNES (mass media), Novinky.cz (Internet mass media), Rock & Pop and Melodie (Musical media), Musicserver.cz (Internet Musical media) and Česká televize (public service, audiovisual media). These media have been analyzed at certain time periods so that complex data could then be compared. In the theoretical part of this work is the history of the band and biographies of some members of the band generally described as well as the way of analysis. In the practical part of the thesis the research hypotheses are first determined, the research itself is carried out in the form of a quantitative content analysis and the results of this analysis are interpreted in different context scopes, where the results in each medium are described separately and then the media coverage in musical and mass media and also at different periods compared. Finally, a brief summary of the results and a confirmation or refutation of...
The image of the fefugee crisis in the main news selection of FTV Prima
Kamrad, Jan ; Železný, Jakub (advisor) ; Hanzal, Jaromír (referee)
When the refugee crisis striked Europe in 2015, czech society found itself on intellectual intersection which influenced media discours of refugee issue. Therefore some of the media were critisized for bias manner of refugee topic coverage. Considering FTV Prima, the suspision of non- compliance of objectivity grew rapidly after the audioreport release of meeting, where leadership of this television confined its employees to report about refuugee crisis as a threat and danger. This work reflects the issue of influencing the broadcast of commercial television by the proprietor. In the first part of this bachelor thesis the terminology concerning refugee phenomenon is defined and the relationship of czech society to imigrants is analyzed. Morover, topics of media theory are explained including media content output, agenda setting, objectivity, bias and influence of mass media to society. These theoretical concepts are then interpreted affecting FTV Prima case. The aim of this work is to describe chosen aspects of reporting about refugee crisis in the main broadcast of FTV Prima. The quantitative analysis has been selected as a methodology of this thesis where author examines tonality, number and order of reports related to refuge crisis within 48 days in August and September 2015. This analysis is...
