Biomedical applications of cationic gold nanoparticles

Cationic gold nanoparticles (GNPs) represent innovative materials promising for treating severe diseases, including cancer. Due to the unique physical properties of colloidal gold, GNPs have been shown to function as theranostics agents, allowing the diagnosis and treatment of the pathological area simulataneously. In addition, a cationic surface charge of GNPs provides extensive nanoparticle-cell interactions. However, despite the great potential in clinical medicine, various types of GNPs have contradictory results, and the studies dealing with the biological and therapeutic properties of cationic GNPs are inconsistent. This doctoral thesis summarizes the current state of knowledge about the biological properties and medical applications of GNPs focusing specifically on positively charged GNPs. A overview of plasmonic photothermal therapy (PPTT) as a cancer treatment strategy is included. Using a step-by-step research approach, our results then characterize the therapeutic potential of GNPs with a specific shape of nanorods (GNRs) and surface modification with quaternary ammonium salt (QAS). Annotated translation: Old China (H. Bögeholz: Anders reisen: China, 1989)

The subject of this bachelor thesis is the annotated translation of the chapter Das alte China, which is a part of the German travel guide book Anders reisen: China. The translation was carried out on the basis of described translation analysis followed by establishment of the translation strategy. At the conclusion of the thesis the concrete translation difficulties and solutions in the area of grammar, stylistics and semantics are being discussed. A constitutive part is also a consideration of the translator's legitimacy of correcting errors in the source text.

Hugo von Hofmannsthal's work in Czech translations

Diplomová práce je rozdělena do dvou částí. První část se věnuje recepci děl rakouského básníka, prozaika a dramatika Hugo von Hofmannsthala (1759-1929) v českých zemích od doby autorova života až po současnost. Všímá si kulturně-politických souvislostí a snaží se odpovědět na otázku, proč není Hofinannsthal u nás více překládán a uváděn na českých jevištích. Diplomová práce zároveň mapuje vešekré dostupné české překlady autorových děl, jak básnických, tak prozaických i dramatických, a s pomocí dobových dokumentů se snaží zjistit, jaké ohlasy autorovo dílo a jeho překlady v českých zemích budily. Přehled vešekrých autorových děl, stejně jako českých překladů, je pak uveden pro větší přehlednost také v příloze. Druhá část diplomové práce se pak zabývá překlady Hofmannsthalových novel Reitergeschichte (1899) a Das Erlebnis des Marschalls von Bassompierre (1900) v podání Jana Reichmanna z první čtvrtiny 20. století a Aloyse Skoumala z 80. let 20. století. Pro adekvátní posouzení obou překladů bylo nejprve nutné věnovat se možným interpretacím vybraných novel. Dále byla provedena analýza textu originálu, která se zaměřila na aspekty relevantní z překladatelského hlediska. Nakonec došlo k porovnání obou překladů s originálem, které vedlo ke stanovení překladatelské metody Jana Reichmanna i Aloyse Skoumala,...

Alfons Breska, poet and translator

The work describes the personality and the work of the poet and translator A. Breska. It is the first monographic work about this author and it is based mainly on archive documents from Breska's personal collection in the literary archive Památník národního písemnictví in Prague. Further sources were Breska's manuscripts and typescripts, which are deposited in the Theatre Institute, Theatre Department of the National Museum in Prague and in the Archive of the National Theatre. Following these documents, the work recreates the biography of Alfons Breska and describes his own literary production as well as the translations in the literary context of the period. In a chronological way the work maps the publication of Breska's poetry books and translations, the publications in periodical journals and the reactions of the literary critics. Special attention is paid to the anthologies of German and Japanese poetry. The final part briefly outlines Breska's method of translation. An important part of the diploma thesis is so far the most complete bibliography of Breska's own and translated works, which includes his literary editions, journal entries, unpublished translations for theatres and responses to his work. Two Czech translations of "Marktplatz der Sensationen" by Egon Erwin Kisch

This thesis explores the book of memoirs written by famous Prague-bom German joumalist Egon Erwin Kisch. The thesis focuses on a translation analysis and subsequent comparison of two Czech translations of Marktplatz der Sensationen by Kisch. To be specific, an archive translation by Lenka Reinerová and a published translation by Jarmila Haasová-Nečasová are analysed. Marktplatz der Sensationen is a literary text, and therefore the text and its author are introduced in compliance with translation theory, prior to the analysis of the empirical material whi~e reflecting the historical, social, and literary context. Based on the background research in the thesis area, it can be stated that unlike the authorised Czech translations by Jarmila Haasová-Nečasová, the Czech translation by Lenka Reinerová has not been analysed in detail sofar. This analytical-empirical work therefore also represents a contribution to the history oftranslation studies. This thesis is divided into several parts. The first part defines the aim ofthe thesis. The main theme of this bachelor thesis is the commented translation of journalistic texts, which were written on the occasion of former German chancellor Helmut Schmidt' s ninetieth birthday. The first part deals with the translation ofthree large articles, which were written by his collaborators, and with the translation of short informative articles in chronological order. The second part contains a comment on the translation, which consists of an analysis of the source texts and a section about conception, strategy and concrete solution of translation problems.

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to create a functionally equivalent translation of the selected chapters of the book Anne-Sophie Mutter. Die Schönheit des Violinklanges, written by the German author Alfred Stenger. The thesis is divided into five parts. The first one is of a practical nature. It consists of a German-Czech translation. The remaining four parts are of a theoretical nature, i.e. a commentary. The second part presents a translation analysis based on the model of Christiane Nord from her book Textanalyse und Übersetzen. The next one focuses on a description of the used translation method and procedures. The fourth part deals with a typology of translation problems at different levels. The last part sums up translation shifts that occurred during the translation process.

Hašek's "Švejk" in German

The aim of this thesis is to chart the changes in the interpretation of Jaroslav Hašek's Osudy dobrého vojáka Švejka za světové války (The Good Soldier Švejk and His Fortunes in the World War) within Czech and (linguistically) German cultures, and to evaluate the German translation of this novel within the context of these changes. The theoretical framework for the assessment of the translation is provided by the pragmatist (pragmatic) theory of language as presented in the works of Ludwig Wittgenstein, Donald Davidson and Richard Rorty, and by the pragmatic theory of translation proposed by Hans Vermeer and Katharina Reiss. At the heart of these theories are (1) the premise that language as a whole relates to the whole of the world and (2) the emphasis on social interaction in language. The quality of translation is assessed according to the translation's successful fulfilment of the aim set by the initiator (client). The first part of the thesis summarises the interpretations of the novel throughout Czech culture. The main character of the novel, Good Soldier Švejk, has been held to embody the typical qualities of the Czech people, so the interpretation of the novel has always been tied to the political convictions of the interpreter.
