Estate directors/property managers of the Schwarzenberg primogeniture and the education of the peasantry in the 1840s-70s
Šebková, Johana ; Kubů, Eduard (advisor) ; Štolleová, Barbora (referee)
The thesis aims to construct a model director of the Schwarzenberg primogeniture estate in the 19th century. This construction will serve as a means to learn about and evaluate three important Schwarzenberg directors, i.e., Franz Horski (1801-1877), Franz Kutschera (1819-1899), Josef Šusta (1835-1914), and the administrator Leopold Maria Zeithammer (1834-1905). The researcher also seeks to understand the extent to which the central economic activities of these officials were linked to educational activities on behalf of the peasants. A significant part of the thesis is devoted to the analysis and interpretation of the official Franz Kutschera's Über die Ziele eines Gutsherrn (1884). This is Kutscher's concentrated experience in managing a large estate and his recommendations on how the owner should act. The addressee of the file was Hereditary Prince Jan Nepomuk II of Schwarzenberg (1860-1938), grandson of Jan Adolf II. Schwarzenberg. The work is based on the study of secondary literature and analysis of archival material (stored in the SOA in Třeboň, Český Krumlov).

Veverková, Andrea ; Štolleová, Barbora (advisor) ; Kubů, Eduard (referee)
(in English): The subject of the thesis is the Tailors' Association in Prague, which was founded in 1911 by the merger of the three main Prague associations. The thesis analyses the organisational structure and activities of the trade association from its foundation to the end of the First Czechoslovak Republic. It focuses on its economic, status, social and cultural functions (educational and enlightenment activities). The thesis examines how the association did or did not fulfil the roles given by the legal framework, how it influenced the business environment of Prague and whether its influence extended to other regions, what role it played for its members and how this changed over time. The basis of the thesis is the elaboration of the surviving archival material using professional periodicals. The thesis thus contributes both to the knowledge of trade associations as a specific type of organisation of trade entrepreneurs in the first half of the 20th century and to the development of the tailoring craft in the Czech lands.

Jandek, Prokop ; Jakubec, Ivan (advisor) ; Štolleová, Barbora (referee)
(in English): The intent of this paper is to analyze the history of the family firm A. Schram, from her founding in the year 1868 till 1938. The focus point for her activity was chemical industry, primarily the sale of explosives and the manufacturing of superphosphate, the most widely used phosphatic fertilizer at that time. On one hand the Schram family is examined, or rather multiple of her generations, on the other hand the firm is put into the context of her shifting position on the market with superphosphate. The aim was to also allow the comparison of the company with her peers in long-term horizon. This is achieved by correlating different business strategies and through the collection comparable quantifiable data. Another goal of the paper was the confrontation of conclusions taken from jubilee brochures about the success of the company with primary documents. The effect of processes typical for family firms has also become the object of interest. This includes the intent of developing business relation through marital policy that would allow gaining some form of competitive advantage, for example. Further analysis is dedicated to the topic of generational transitions, that often led to ownership fragmentation and therefore it lowered the ability of said firm to adopt business decisions.

Jirsa, Jiří ; Činátl, Kamil (advisor) ; Štolleová, Barbora (referee)
(in English): This bachelor's thesis is concerned with the story of a small village in the southern part of the Czech Republic, and adjacent areas, during the process of collectivization. It is a micro- historical study based in part on sources available in the Strakonice district archive and in the private archive of the ZD Trebohostice farmers' cooperative, as well as an oral history project based on interviews with contemporaries. Using the examples of several nearby socialist cooperative farms, the study records and analyzes changes in management. However, it is also concerned with the stances that the local residents assumed to the changes brought about by collectivization, as well as with the changes in their perceptions over time. While the study includes the period just before collectivization, its main focus is on the post-collectivization period and on the repercussions of collectivization. The study also considers economy, its form and the changes it underwent over the years.
