Melhem, Sámer ; Štefek, Martin (advisor) ; Hesová, Zora (referee)
Abstaract The bachelor's thesis, entitled The Failure of the Consociational Model in Lebanon, will examine the theory of consociationalism proposed by the Dutch political scientist Arend Lijphart as an appropriate form of democratic organization for highly fragmented and heterogeneous societies. The thesis will first present a political history of Lebanon, especially of the 21st century, after which it will study the basic attributes of the theory of consociational democracy through the concrete example of this Middle Eastern country, thus confirming the appropriateness of using this theoretical framework for its study. The thesis will also focus on the electoral system, which has historically undergone many changes and whose form is a major contributor to the current state. Based on the facts presented, the research questions will then be answered, aiming to find out what has been the reason for the failure of this system. Keywrods: Lijphart, consociational democracy, confessionalism, Lebanon, electoral system, political parties

Student as a citizen? The approach of the Dutch political authorities towards students during the COVID-19 pandemic
Zápalová, Myriam ; Kozmanová, Irena (advisor) ; Štefek, Martin (referee)
The work examines the attitude of Dutch political power towards university students as citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through an analysis of meetings in the lower house of parliament (Tweede Kamer) dedicated to the developments surrounding the coronavirus, it investigates the conceptualizations of students as citizens that Members of Parliament explicitly or implicitly formulated during these debates, how these conceptualizations competed with each other, and their role in shaping the government's position versus the opposition's (or individual parties'), while also considering the context of the March 2021 elections. The COVID-19 pandemic proved an ideal source of information by compelling parties to explicitly express their value-based stances and engage in explicit debates on state support priorities. The thesis focused on four thematic areas of the (real or desired) relationship of political power to students as citizens: communication, prioritization, advocacy of interests, and the construction of the image of the student. The optic of the approach to students did not confirm a dividing line between government and opposition, but rather between government and parliament. The latter served as the main accelerator of the debate, setting an agenda that took into account students as a...

Czech politics in the context of changes of the revolutionary year 1848: Why did the political visions of the revolutionary forces fail to succeed?
Vaněk, Karel ; Doubek, Vratislav (advisor) ; Štefek, Martin (referee)
Bachelor thesis entitled "Czech Politics in the Context of the Revolutionary Changes of 1848: Why Did the Political Visions of the Movers of the Revolution Fail to Take Hold?" asks the question why the actors of the revolutionary events did not assert themselves politically in the period immediately after the revolution. Fundamental to this thesis is the hypothesis that this very failure to assert itself was primarily due to the lack of development of political and party organisation and, as a consequence, the inadequate economic and institutional conditions for the potential self-realisation of the political parties themselves. Keywords Revolutionary year 1848, Theory of political parties, Development of political parties, Czech political thought
Modelling of blood flow in a carotid artery with stenoses
Štefek, Martin ; Hájek, Petr (referee) ; Švancara, Pavel (advisor)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the analysis of blood flow in a carotid artery with stenoses in the area of the bifurcation. The current state of knowledge is presented in the theoretical part. As part of the practical part of the work, several 2D models of the artery with stenoses of dif-ferent sizes and distances were created. An ideal mesh of finite volumes was created and select-ed. Using the ANSYS Fluent program, basic hemodynamic parameters such as flow velocity, wall shear stress, pressure and fractional flow reserve (FFR) were evaluated for stationary flow. A time step was determined for the transient flow, and then the flow speed and shear stress on the walls at points were evaluated as a function of time.
Proposal for the Reform of the Czech Electoral System in 2007-2009
Ruml, Jan ; Štefek, Martin (advisor) ; Znoj, Milan (referee)
This bachelor thesis is devoted to the topic of the attempt of reformation of the electoral system for the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic II. by the government of Mirek Topolánek in the years 2006 to 2009. The second part, which is in terms of content the most extensive, is the analysis of available periodical sources and professional works with the aim of mapping the motivations of political parties represented in the Chamber of Deputies to support/negate changes to the electoral system. The third part, which analyses the approach of the given actors to the Greek variant designed for changing the electoral system, is based on the second part of this bachelor's thesis. In the last part of this thesis, the Greek version is used to recalculate the results of the elections in 2010, in order to evaluate how real was the motivation for change. Throughout the work, the emphasis is primarily on the motivations, reasons and goals that the individual political parties expected from the reform or its negation.

The restoration of Czechoslovak social democracy in 1968: Dialogue of two opinion movements
Sommer, Patrik ; Štefek, Martin (advisor) ; Broučková, Kristina (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to present the formation process of the Czechoslovak social democratic party during the Prague spring era. The attempt to restore the party in 1968 took place in an atmosphere of significant liberalization and democratization of the then regime, which consecutively made possible the creation of many independent organizations among which the Social democratic party was included. First, we will state what claims the efforts to restore the party were based on and what the form of the newly emerged formation should have been. The thesis will then attempt to analyse the relationship of the Communist Party to this independent movement and its development against the background of changes in the political and social climate during a few months in 1968. The text will present what power tools the ruling party used to prevent this activity and how successful it was in these actions. The role of the press, both partisan and opposition, played in this attempt of polarization of the system will also be outlined. The thesis will be limited by the act of invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops, that is, the act that both the restoration of the social democratic party played a role in, and that subsequently dashed the attempt of given party's restoration. Keywords: prague spring, communism,...
