Evaluation of vegetable fats consumption of patients with cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia
Kubecová, Markéta ; Vrablík, Michal (advisor) ; Šnejdrlová, Michaela (referee)
The thesis deals with intake of vegetable fats in patients with CVD (Cardiovascular Disease), DM (Diabetes Mellitus) and dyslipidemia. The theoretical part deals with the distribution of lipids, as well as sources ofvarious fatty acids in the diet and their effects on our organism. The next part describes the use of vegetable oils as well as aspects of digestion of fatty acids, their absorption, transport and metabolism. The last chapter of the introduction is dedicated to diseases, in which it is necessary not only to monitor fat intake but, also, choosing those, that can postively impact onthe disease progression. The nutritional (medical) study is made on the basis of a questionnaire survey, which monitors the consumption and use of vegetable fats andfoods containing vegetable fats. Results summarize whether patients are informed and following proper diet regimen and identify mistakes they have been making. Data collection was conducted at the 3rd Department ofInternal Medicine, 1st Faculty of Medicine and General Teaching Hospital in Prague. Keywords: fatty acids, nutrition, metabolism, diet in disease, eating habits
Effect of low-cholesterol diet on lipid parameters in patients with hypercholesterolemia
Šípková, Eva ; Zlatohlávek, Lukáš (advisor) ; Šnejdrlová, Michaela (referee)
This thesis focuses in its theoretical part onto description of human lipid functions, and on cholesterol mainly. It zooms on different types of dyslipidemia, which as a significant factor influence the risk of cardiovascular disease. There are introduced possibilities of pharmacology treatment, as well as regime changes, which should go along with every attempt of successful therapy of dyslipidemia. The emphasis is on diet, which can in high level influence the amount of fat intake. Low-cholesterol diet by itself is no longer recommended as it was proved that limitation of cholesterol only does not lead to hypocholesterolemia. Patients with dyslipidemia have to follow diet with reduced fat intake; the impact of this diet on lipid parameters is subject of this thesis. Shortly we also touch the topic of atherosclerosis as a consequence of increased levels of blood lipids. Practical part is devoted to research that took place with control group of patients in Center of preventive cardiology of 3rd Medical Clinic of General University Hospital and 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University. Thanks to patients' observation before and after regime changes including diet we are able to evaluate by the end of this thesis whether diet with reduced fat intake has demonstrable effect on patient's lipid...
Effect of low-choelsterol diet on lipid parametrs by patients with hypercholesterolemia
Šilerová, Tereza ; Zlatohlávek, Lukáš (advisor) ; Šnejdrlová, Michaela (referee)
This Bachelor thesis is focused on dyslipidemia, as a significant risk factor in terms of the occurrence and development of cardiovascular diseases. It describes the various lipids found in blood plasma. It explains the concept of dyslipidemia, their classification, diagnosis and therapy, which involves pharmacotherapeutic treatment and dietary measures as recommended for these diseases. It touches upon the process of atherosclerosis, as there is a very close between atherosclerosis and dyslipidemia. It gives a detailed description of the principles of the diet recommended for patients with hypercholesterolemia. The practical part of the work is devoted to research focusing on patients with hypercholesterolemia in order to determine their eating habits and the influence that a low-cholesterol diet has on blood lipid parameters. The aim was to either confirm or refute hypotheses concerning dietotherapy. The purpose of this work is to stress the importance of thorough and repeated education for patients in order to help prevent the occurrence and development of cardiovascular diseases. Keywords: dyslipidemia, atherosclerosis, diet therapy, education, prevention
Relationship of apolipoprotein E polymorfism on the functional fitness in the elderly
Šnejdrlová, Michaela ; Češka, Richard (advisor) ; Hubáček, Jaroslav (referee) ; Zadák, Zdeněk (referee)
(EN) Background: The life expectancy is defined by a combination of genotype (25%) and environmental influences, including lifestyle (75%). Nevertheless a stronger genetic influence is expressed in long-living individuals. Epsilon gene for apolipoprotein E (APOE) belongs among the most studied so called "candidate genes of longevity". The association of APOE polymorfism is proved in relation to many diseases (hypercholesterolaemia, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer disease), thus we tried to evaluate the relation of APOE polymorfism and senior fitness. Methods: In our pilot study we examined a total number of 128 patients (93 women, 35 men), all of them older than 80 years, average age 88.6 ±5.3 years. Examinations: A) detailed examination of functional fitness (ADL, MMSE, Yeassavage's depression scale , MNA, 6-MWT). Based on this complex examination, patients have been sorted to 5 functional categories according to W. Spirdus, these categories objectively express the level of self - sufficiency. B) laboratory examinations C) examintaion of APOE gene polymorphism using DNA restriction analysis, DNA isolated from peripheral leucocytes Results: Our pilot study proved statisticaly significant relation (p = 0,0248) between allele E4 and functional fitness in senior age. According to the results of...
Comparison of eating habits of patients with familial hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia
Holubová, Šárka ; Šnejdrlová, Michaela (advisor) ; Altschmiedová, Tereza (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with eating habits of patients with two metabolic diseases, familial hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first theoretical part summarizes information on metabolic disease, types of treatment and dietary measures. The second, practical part is also divided into two parts. In the retrospective part, the entry and exit values of lipidograms of 21 patients with familial hypercholesterolemia and 14 patients with mixed dyslipidemia are compared. The pacients have been treated in the Center of Preventive Cardiology. The results show that total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and triglyceride levels are reduced after the pharmacological treatment in both groups. HDL- cholesterol remains unchanged. There are no changes in the lipidograms by patients who do not have pharmacological treatment. In the second part, the dietary habits of 8 patients, 4 with the familiarity of hypercholesterolemia and 4 with mixed dyslipidemia, are discussed qualitatively, where it is evident that nutritional education is insufficient because only two patients have visited a nutritional therapist at least once. keywords: familial hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, lipid metabolism, nutrition
Sense of nutrition care in institutions for the seniors
Husová, Kristýna ; Novák, František (advisor) ; Šnejdrlová, Michaela (referee)
Malnutrition is a common and not fully revealed clinical problem in facilities for the elderly. Despite significant medical advances it remains an important and highly prevalent public health problem in developed countries. An early identification and appropriate nutritional support can help stop malnutrition and the negative consequences associated with poor nutritional condition. The risk of malnutrition increases with age and low levels of proper care. This thesis presents the findings of the situation of nutritional care in selected homes for the elderly through participation on NutritionDay Worldwide 2015 (nDay), which is compared to results in the world. It summarizes the knowledge about the individual organization and provision of nutritional care in selected homes. To the project nDay, held on 11/19 2015, home for the elderly in Kolín, home for the elderly PRAGOM CS, s r. o. in Pňov-Předhradí and a social care home Hagibor in Prague were involved. Respondents of these homes make up 9.4% of respondents in the Czech Republic. The result is that three selected facilities, which are compared with similar ones in the world, have a higher incidence of malnutrition. In the individual comparison of individual homes with other homes in the world, PRAGOM CS, s r. o. in Pňov-Předhradí and home for the elderly...

The knowledge of patients with coronary artery disease on the importance of nutrition and lifestyle.
Lukešová, Vlasta ; Tuka, Vladimír (advisor) ; Šnejdrlová, Michaela (referee)
Coronary artery disease is the most common cause of premature death, not only in our country but worldwide. The purpose of this thesis is to determine the habits of patients with this serious disease, the impact of education on their knowledge needed to change their current lifestyle and diet, success and possible barriers in putting these changes into practice. The easiest approach and conditions to the education in a physical activity area, lifestyle changes and nutrition have those patients with indicated spa treatment. For these reasons the research was carried out among patients treated in the spa Poděbrady through three consecutive surveys: in the beginning, at the end and three months after the end of the spa cure. The responses were carefully analysed. 45 patients with coronary artery disease and 22 patients after valvular disease surgery were involved in this study as a control group. With the further progress of the research the interest of patients and the response rate declined. Hazardous behaviour like smoking, lack of physical activity, increased salt intake, excessive energy intake of the patients with coronary artery disease was confirmed by this study. The study uncovered the lack of patients' interest in education resulting is low knowledge level of lifestyle and healthy diet...

This bachelor's thesis is focused on animal fat consumption of patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and diabetes mellitus (DM). Content of thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The main objective of theoretical part is to provide a general description of lipids in terms of distribution, structure, characteristics and their role in human organism. In the following chapters metabolism and transport of lipids is described with more attention to details. The last part of theoretical part deals with animal fats in nutrition, mostly risk factors as a consequence of their increased consumption, and dietary measures as a prevention and therapy of CVD and DM. The practical part of bachelor's thesis is based on assessment survey. The object of this survey was the evaluation of eating habits, mainly the measure of animal fats consumption of patients with CVD and DM. Next object of interest was the evaluation of awareness, knowledge and education these patients have about dietary measures in relation to their disease. Question about the way how are these measures followed by patients was also examined. The survey was conducted in the diabetological center and also in the centre of preventive cardiology of General Teaching Hospital in Prague on patients with CVD and DM. Key words: lipids,...
