FROM EAST TO WEST: RELATIONS, COLLISIONS, AND DIVERGENCE OF CZECH AND JAPANESE CULTURE
Vaculík, David ; Čapková, Helena (referee) ; Mitášová, Monika (advisor)
The diploma thesis follows up the pre-diploma research dealing with the investigation of selected literature on Japanese traditional and modern architecture and gardens, archival research of extant 20th century buildings in Czech republic influenced by Czech-Japanese relations and the contemporary perception of Japan in the eyes of the Czech professional and uninitiated audience. It also includes a selective glossary of Japanese words and terms, containing study translations from English of selected architectural literature related to the topic. The output took the form of a Discovery Book with a short glossary, pictorial data and an anthology of translated texts. The thesis follows this preliminary "introductory research" with two main parts. The first part (A) explores concepts of space-making and spatial elements deeply rooted in Japanese traditional buildings as they were rediscovered and rethought, particularly by 20th century Japanese architects – who continued to use and revive these concepts in their own work. The text traces their understanding of Japanese traditional architecture. Then, using the example of three Japanese traditional spatial "icons", four works by 20th century Japanese architects, and three works by Czech architects in different phases of the 20th century, the thesis probes the relationship between these two architectural cultures in a European context. The second part (B) consists of texts on the architectural designing of model, utopian housing. The whole design follows a narrative – a scenario that shapes a temporal and spatial sequence that is not in line with the classical perception of time and space but spirals upwards. The next subsection interprets this story into spatio-temporal gradients and elements. Parts C and D contain conclusions and literature used. Model buildings are proposed on a range of scales: the smallest dwelling (a capsule), minimal dwelling, community dwelling, house, villa, city, and a coffin. The composition of the different scenarios and structures respects the movement along a spiral, where we can also observe the cyclical nature of life itself, which ends with the last terminal phase that escapes the gradient of scales – the coffin. These individual proposals are inspired by the studied phenomena and elements, texts and buildings of Japanese and European architecture with their interrelationships. The aim of this thesis is first to study the spatial, temporal, but also light and colour possibilities of Japanese traditional and modern architecture in the context of European, especially Czech, ones. Another aim is to propose a model-based, utopian housing project with a gradient layering of spaces, structures, materials, views and lighting based on various game strategies as well as the maxims of “Form follows fiction”.
Socio-cultural centre with townhall for the district Brno-Kohoutovice
Ľuptáková, Lenka ; Pechman, Tomáš (referee) ; Sochor, Jan (advisor)
The building of the town hall Brno Kohoutovice is situated on the site next to the local hospital. Currently, there is a widespread paved area, which has become the place for markets and other cultural activities. Town hall completed urban structure, built on the most visible plot, and closes the plaza on the east side. From the south, the square is open to Kohoutovická valley. It is closed and opened at the same time by a colonnade. Functional composition is expressed in both - size and material. On a solid concrete base, which holds cultural and social events, lie two light steel boxes dedicated to the town hall. The middle part is cantilivered into the square, which symbolizes the proximity of town hall offices to the citizens. It is dedicated to the departements, which are in daily contact with the public. The upper part with large terrace has representative function. There are the internal departements and a ceremonial hall.
Solution design of dual food quality problem through Blockchain technology
Kopec, Martin ; Luhan, Jan (referee) ; Novák, Lukáš (advisor)
The goal of this diploma thesis is to propose a system based on blockchain technology that is dealing with dual food quality problem in countries of the EU. The theore- tical part of the thesis explains basic principles of blockchain technology, provides an analysis of the dual food quality problem, EU market and the current blockchain implementations in food industry. The practical part focuses on the solution design of such a system itself.
Realistic Model of the Sky
Kussior, Zdeněk ; Bílek, Václav (referee) ; Drahanský, Martin (advisor)
The paper describes a theoretical base and realization of realistic volumetric clouds visualization in an environment of real-time simulator. The first part is concerned with a meteorological background of this problem. I show international classification of ten basic cloud types including a short description and cases of occurence. The following part is concerned with an interaction between cloudiness and simulation core, which is based on the fact, that each cloud acts as a mechanical or an electromagnetic obstacle. This should be considered on some way in simulation. The next part describes technologies and practical implementations of visualization and evaluates their characteristics. Finally, the last chapter describes my implementation and tries to outline project advancement.
RECONSTRUCTION AND REBUILDING OF CITY BREWERY IN VYŠKOV
Hudínková, Veronika ; Zemánek, Václav (referee) ; Boháč, Ivo (advisor)
The bachelor´s thesis focuses on the solution of today's unused Vyškov brewery, which is part of the city's history. The proposal presents a new use of existing buildings and revitalization of the entire complex. The main task is to revitalize this area and find suitable uses that will co-operate and complement the original main function of the site.
Socio-cultural centre with townhall for the district Brno-Kohoutovice
Olivíková, Barbora ; Joura, Ivo (referee) ; Mikulášek, David (advisor)
The main goal of the proposal was to solve the problem of combining socio-cultural centre with town hall. To use flexibility and mix-use and connect all functions so they work together. The main idea about function of the building was how the people feels when they go to such a building as town hall. The goal was to propose the space which is transparent and remove the barriers between bureaucrats and public, so you can already see from outside what is happening inside. The concept was to design long building with the foyer along the side oriented towards the square. All is based on transparency which supports democracy and trust, removes weird feelings about solid walls and closed doors. The fasade is made from long thin wooden pieces with glass between, the appearence of the building is jumped and sloped and pointed shape which relates with the functions and break the stereotype of the estate urban structure.
Optimization of optical and transport properties of PVA based hydrogels
Zahrádka, Jan ; Kalina, Michal (referee) ; Sedláček, Petr (advisor)
The main goal of this bachelor thesis is to design and optimize a suitable method for preparation of transparent physically crosslinked hydrogels with manipulable transport properties. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) crosslinked by cyclic freezing and thawing was chosen as the model gel-forming material. From the originally proposed three mechanisms of influencing optical properties of thus prepared PVA gels, the influence of freezing rate was selected on the basis of pilot screening experiments for a deeper follow-up analysis. The mechanical properties of prepared hydrogels were analyzed by rheology using strain sweep test. The internal structure was visualized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The optimized technique for preparation of transparent PVA gels was subsequently used for preparation of gels with an interpenetrated polyelectrolyte component (poly (styrene sulfonate)). It was then experimentally verified by diffusion pair method with methylene blue as diffusion probe that the hybrid hydrogel network has modified transport properties.
Processing of compact polycrystalline YAG ceramics
Kaplan, Lukáš ; Pouchlý, Václav (referee) ; Kachlík, Martin (advisor)
In the literary part of this master thesis a research on various methods of preparation of dense polycrystalline YAG ceramics and the effects of sintering on the densification and other desired properties of such prepared YAG ceramics was carried out, the transparency after addition of dopant elements was also discussed. In the experimental part of the thesis, samples of dense polycrystalline YAG ceramics were prepared by SSR method and the effect of sintering on the densification and porosity of the YAG ceramic samples was studied. Relative density, porosity, phase purity and transparency were measured on the sintered samples. These measurements were compared with the results of the works reported in the literature section.
