The woody plants in the public city space
Markevičová, Vendula ; Kyselka, Mojmír (referee) ; Babka, Václav (referee) ; Hrubanová, Denisa (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
This tesis are about the mutual relation between the woody plants and the city public space, more precisely between the architectural composition and its elements. Woody plants, particulalry the trees, are under the same aesthetical rules as all the other elements of the public space, but at the same time are the living organisms, that are under the rules of nature. The thesis present five thematic groups of information, thats are necessary to know for the design of the woody plants in the city public space. On the base of this information the thesis review the streets and the squares of the city Brno and prove no contradiction between the aesthetical rules and the rules of nature. Contrarily, they support each other. It proves, that the high quality city space with the woody plants, is possible to create only with the knowledge of the both rules and their aplications.
Možnosti využití travních porostů v rámci agrolesnictví
Macek, Libor
The bachelor's thesis deals with the use of grasslands with a focus on grasses and clover in agroforestry systems. The first part describes the agroforestry itself – its characteristics and significance. Furthermore, emphasis is placed on woody plants suitable for agroforestry systems, especially in the conditions of Central Europ, as well as on their production and non-production functions. The most suitable representatives are for example, walnut (Juglans), poplar (Populus), but also less economically used representatives, such as cherry (Prunus) or rowan (Sorbus). At the same time, agroforestry is divided into certain units, which are characterized by their functions, both in the tropics and in Europe. The most typical systems in Europe are mainly silvopastoral systems, but also increasingly used alley cropping on arable land. The second part describes various agroforestry systems using grasslands as well as practical examples of functioning systems in different climate zones. Attention is also paid to individual members of the family Poaceae and Fabaceae suitable for their characteristic properties in these systems. The most important for shading appear to be tolerant representatives such as Agrostis stolonifera L. or Festuca arundinacea Schreb. from the Poaceae family or Meadow clover (Trifolium pratense L.) from the Fabaceae family. Possible interactions related to the coexistence of woody plants, grasses and clover, such as competition and allelopathy, are also not neglected.

KOČÍ, David
The aim of this bachelor thesis is try to compare machines for felling trees at two private entrepreneurs with the same production focus but different machines. The main comparison lies in the performance, fuel consumption and financial costs of individual work operations in a pre-designated area. All this information will be converted to the annual work output of the machines.
The Incorporation of Inquiry-based Science Education at Wood Species Botany Discipline for Upper Primary School
Dobisíková, Anežka ; Skýbová, Jana (advisor) ; Pavlasová, Lenka (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with inquiry-based education (IBE) for upper primary school in science, especially in the context of botany of woody species. The theoretical part briefly summarizes the history of science education in the context of the development of inquiry-based education, maps the concept of inquiry-based teaching and presents the possibilities of its use. It also characterizes the teaching of science at the second level of upper primary school with a focus on botany of woody plants and describes the representation of the topic IBE elements in selected textbooks and workbooks. The method of analysis of the teaching material revealed that the selected publications do not directly provide IBE tasks. However, they do provide tasks that could be further used research-wise. In the next section, research is presented to determine whether IBE elements are used in the educational programmes of selected members of the Union of Botanic Gardens. Based on the questionnaire survey and interview method, it can be concluded that the selected botanic gardens do not actively include IBE in their teaching programmes. The last practical part of the thesis contains the methodology and description of the implementation of a research activity on the topic of botany of trees in school named "Evergreen trees"...
Didactic utilization of selected woody plants around natural monument Čertova kazatelna
Závorková, Lucie ; Skýbová, Jana (advisor) ; Jančaříková, Kateřina (referee)
This diploma thesis is focused on the didactic use of woody plants in teaching at the secondary level of elementary schools and in the corresponding years of grammar schools. The purpose is to appropriately use trees and other woody plants that are close to schools and are available for teaching. The theoretical part deals with basic curricular documents, methods of teaching possibly used in science or biology that have been briefly characterized, and the representation of the topic of woody plants and their method of processing in commonly available textbooks. The following chapter provides a description of the woody plants used in the process of making of the practical materials. The research of the thesis includes a questionnaire survey done among teachers of science or biology at chosen elementary and grammar schools in Pilsen and surrounding towns. The research investigated the teaching methods and the actual use of woody plants in lessons and was evaluated afterwards. Based on the survey, a motivational teaching material was created and it was verified in practice with pupils of a specific grammar school. KEYWORDS curriculum documents, biology textbooks, teaching methods, woody plants, questionnaire research, dendrological walk
Carbon allocation in evergreen and decidious temperate tree species under the elevated concentration CO2 and O3
Neuwirthová, Eva ; Albrechtová, Jana (advisor) ; Konrádová, Hana (referee)
An ongoing increase in atmospheric CO2 concentrations and tropospheric O3 is expected in coming years. These changes are mostly caused by anthropogenic activities and influence remarkably not only plants but the climate on the Earth. Physiological processes in plants determining carbon assimilation and allocation in plant organs are changing in a consequence of variations of these gases in the environment. Tree species represent importatnt C pools and changes in C allocation may effect their sink capability in the global C cycle.Increased CO2 concentration in the atmosphere often leeds to incereased rate of photosynthesis lowered photorespiration what in turn may lead to enhanced C storage in plant biomass. The C storage into sinks is mediated through the assimilation organs, which are disturbed by O3. Ozone is toxic to plants and trees are due to their longevity exposed to ozone influence repeatedly for long term. The response to increased CO2 and O3 concentrations, is the most commonly investigated on two typical representatives of European temperate species: deciduous European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and coniferous Norway spruce (Picea abies L. Karst.) The aim of the present review was to summarize the knowledge about the effects of increased concentrations of CO2 and O3 acting separately or in...
Regulation of floral initiation in woody perennials
Čermák, Vladimír ; Mašková, Petra (advisor) ; Čermák, Vojtěch (referee)
Floral initiation is an important process for temperate woody perennials that affects the subsequent development of the flower. Although this process is well known in annual plants such as Arabidopsis thaliana, not much research has been done in woody plants. This review summarizes the knowledge about mechanisms of flowering induction in woody perennials, compared to the findings in model plants, especially A. thaliana, including factors involved in the regulation of the flowering process. In particular, FT-like genes and TFL1-like genes, which play an important role in the regulation of flowering induction, are discussed in detail. In temperate woody plants the dormancy period follows the floral induction before the floral development. Periodic regulation of this stage is controlled endogenously and, in addition to other factors, it is affected by expression of DAM genes. The genetic mechanisms regulating endodormancy release in woody perennials are similar to vernalization in herbs. Better understanding of processes such as the floral induction and endodormancy release can help us to develop cultivars with a modified flowering time.
Timber species education of the elementary School
Hladíková, Hana ; Skýbová, Jana (advisor) ; Pavlasová, Lenka (referee)
The main objective of this thesis is the preparation and realization of project about timber species for pupils attending fourth grade of elementary school. Introductory chapters present basic curricular documents about environmental education. The author analyses elementary school textbooks focusing on naturalistic topics and finds out the ways in which the subject matter of timber species is covered in textbooks of fourth and fifth grade of elementary school. In the chapter Characteristics of Rieger's Park, the author examines the history of the park and mentions woody species to be found on the park's territory. One part of the thesis deals with results arising from questionnaire survey carried out at schools in the adjacent park surroundings. The main purpose of the questionnaire survey was to find out how much interest there is in the project dealing with issues of timber species in Rieger's Park. The author set the objective at the same time of finding out what form of the project would be the most convenient for teachers of the selected schools. Practice-oriented part contains the project "Timber Species in the Rieger's Park". Four walks to the Rieger's Park in different seasons of the year with accompanying working sheets made stand for the basis of the project. In the final part of the...
