The Solomon's daughters comic brings a new concept to the topic of witch-hunting. It is situated in the period before and during World War II, consciously working with associations with the time that is only mediated by literature and film to most people these days. Although some topics concerning humanity and cruelty are still emerging, we perceive this period with a certain distance and a comprehensive evaluation. And precisely because of how clear and familiar the facts are, we can now afford to work with the environment and that time mostly as a backdrop that offers us certain opportunities for story development and aesthetic integrity.

The theme of the Holocaust conveyed to pupils of younger school age at primary school level through work with a book

The aim of this thesis is to analyse appropriate literature containing the topic of the Holocaust and to sensitively convey the topic to pupils of younger school age. The topic of the Holocaust is very challenging and requires a special approach, especially when dealing with younger pupils. Therefore, the first chapter of the theoretical part focuses on the characteristics of the younger school-age child, his cognitive, emotional and value development. Next, the theoretical part focuses on the characteristics of literature for children and young people, its functions and typical genres. It also gets to the definition of the theme of the Holocaust in the Framework Curriculum for Primary Education and discusses the theme of the Holocaust in literature for children and youth. The final chapter of the theoretical part first defines reading literacy and its development. In the context of literacy development, the chapter characterizes the Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking program and describes selected methods of this program that will be used later in the research part of the thesis. Socioeconomic consequences of Japanese American internment in the United States during World War II Abstract This bachelor thesis describes the consequences of wartime internment of Japanese Americans in the USA. It is concerned with short- and long-term socioeconomic effects of the incarceration. The first part of the thesis introduces Japanese immigration to the United States and the struggle of the pacific states to reduce it. The next chapter informs the reader about the internment itself, including its causes, process and the reasons of its termination. The third part is concerned with the socioeconomic status of the community between the two world wars. The main focus of the chapter is to tell why Japanese Americans chose agriculture and small farming over other professional fields. The socioeconomic consequences of the internment are analyzed in the main chapter. The study reflects the short- and long-term effect of incarceration on Japanese Americans. The conclusion overviews the findings of the thesis and also provides a quick summary of the redress movement which achieved a formal apology and financial compensation to the survivors of the internment. Das "deutsche Prag" 1939-1945. Ein Beitrag zur Erforschung der besetzten Hauptstädte Europas

anglicky The PhD thesis Das "deutsche Prag" 1939-1945. Ein Beitrag zur Erforschung der besetzten Hauptstädte Europas deals with the German occupation of Prague before and during World War II in the context of current research on the National-socialist occupation of Europe. The so-called Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia has been somewhat on the sidelines of current trends in international historiography as has the history of Prague in the Twentieth century. The thesis therefore first sketches out the broader research context as well as the roots for German occupation policy in the former Czechoslovak capital city, referring to the once prominent position of the German minority in Prague. One main focus of the thesis is then to try and analyse the (changing) structure and the population movement of the Germans in Prague during the years of occupation. In a next step, examples are given on how the German occupation regime tried to consolidate and expand the Germans' position in the city, aiming for an eventual re-modeling of the urban structure in terms of a "Germanisation" of the Bohemian capital. A chapter on the final collapse and dissolution of "German Prague" concludes the study.

History of the National Theatre Ballet in the years 1930-1951

The rigorous thesis deals with the influence of the 20th century political events on the National Theatre Ballet. The researched period is set out by the years 1930-1951. The work follows the pre-war situation of the two ballet leaders Jelizaveta Nikolská and Josef Joe Jenčík, the rise and fall of German nationalism, the dance-related career of Emanuel Famíra, post-war Czechoslovakia, the rise of communism, the dark fifties and the work of Saša Machov. The research of ballet specifics is dealt with in the circumstances of the time. The character of the time is further illustrated by the destinies of the group's leaders (or its soloists), the selected repertoire and the reviews that evaluated the individual works. It is therefore not a chronological listing of the activities of the National Theatre's ballet troupe, but an analysis of the influence of the contemporary political situation and an attempt to place this often neglected component of the National Theatre in a historical context.

Impacts of the Pearl Harbor Attack on the Japanese Americans in the USA

This bachelor's thesis deals with the impacts of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Japanese Americans living in the United States during World War II. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the individual aspects that led to the widespread internment of Japanese Americans after the attack on Pearl Harbor. To achieve this goal, the historical context of American-Japanese relations is briefly mentioned in the introductory part of the thesis, followed by an analysis of the public opinion of American society towards Japanese Americans and the issue of their internment. The thesis also discusses Executive Order 9066 and related processes leading to relocation to internment camps. In the second half of the thesis, exceptions to internment in the form of Japanese Americans living in Hawaii and their service in the U.S. Army are analyzed. For a better understanding of the effects of Pearl Harbor on Japanese Americans, these effects are compared in the last chapter of the thesis with the effects on German Americans, who were the second most significant group of immigrants in the context of the Second World War and in the context of public discussion in the U.S.

Without a trace

Without a trace explores the possibilities of working with the so-called memory of landscape, which I understand as a certain open, ongoing and changing composition of narratives, motifs, people and objects of different origins and different natures. These components and sources of memory all relate to the period of World War II and in particular to the theme of anti-fascist partisan resistance. The resulting intermedia work was preceded by field research, during which I gathered a wealth of material on the subject that led me to create a kind of alternative cartography. The map and the educational trail through the landscape of Vysočina, supported by text in the form of an audioguide, are the formats of the resulting work and an attempt to break away from the great simplistic narratives of war, partisans and resistance. They focus on the small stories of the actors of the resistance, not only Czech and Soviet partisans and refugees, but also local residents. The resulting format guides the user through the physical landscape and connects it to different interpretations of its history. My own version of the landscape memory is admittedly also influenced by my personal experiences from my childhood in Vysočina.
