Řešitel: Bc. Tereza Peltanová Studijní program: Německá a středoevropská studia Název práce: Beatified Gerhard Hirschfelder - the contribution of a religious figure to the creation of a transnational site of memory Abstract The diploma thesis deals with the origin and development of the cult of the German priest Gerhard Hirschfelder. In the 1930s he worked as a popular chaplain and youth pastor, first in the border village of Czermna and then in Bystrzyca Kłodzka. He disagreed with limiting the power of the Roman Catholic Church by national socialists. He paid for his attitude with his life in the Dachau concentration camp. After the end of the war, the original German and Czech population of the area of Kłodzko was expelled and replaced by Polish people. Since the late 1990s, Hirschfelder has been worshiped by all three nations. He was beatified in 2010. The thesis is a case study of a transnational site of memory (lieu de mémoire). It examines under what circumstances, thanks to which actors and in what form the cult of the German martyr arose on Polish territory. Based on that information, the thesis tries to deduce what symbolism the figure of the priest currently carries for individual national groups.
Monasteries in Danger. Disputes about Liquidation of Czech and Moravian Monasteries of the "Old Orders" in the Period before the Battle of White Mountain
Chládek, Oldřich ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Maur, Eduard (referee) ; x, (referee)
Liquidation of monasteries in the era of Reformations is a phenomenon which has been studied only to a certain level. There were very many cases of abolished or liquidated monasteries. The author concentrates only on two cases (Augustinian canonries in Kłodzko and Olomouc) where efforts to liquidate a monastery were met with resistance from the community or monastic structures. It is a multilayered topic, requiring a thorough analysis. Due to the fact that these disputes were interfered by a number of influential personalities (supreme provincial officials, nuncios, bishops, superiors of monastic orders etc.), it represents an ideal material to study the relationships within the high society in the era before the Battle of White Mountain. Besides the high politics we can also focus on other aspects - such as legal arguments of the conflicting parties or linguistic, art historical or theological layer. After research not only in Czech, but also in foreign archives (e.g. Rome, Kraków, Kłodzko, Wrocław, Vienna), the author refills or corrects older conclusions (Jan Tenora, Aloys Bach etc.). He also tries to verify the theory that within the Catholic Church those monasteries were abolished which were - in the economic and also spiritual layer - in a state of deep crisis.

The project is focused to analyse relationships between Czech aristocracy and cities located in Czech-Glatz borderland area during Hussitic wars and Vladislav Jagellonský reign. My goal is to compare information sources of Czech and Silesian provenience. Main topic of this thesis is to analyse transformation of Glatz area from region to county, destiny of Glatz landlords and their neighbourhood relationships. First chapter describes complicated relationships in Czech aristocracy. Second chapter follows disputes in Czech-Glatz borderland. The third chapter is about difficulties of Hradec Králové area at one side and on the other side there are different problems at Glatz area. Chapter four describes fates of Eastern Czech during the reign of king Jiří z Poděbrad. The religious attitude has lost significance for nobles. Instead, religion was viewed from a pragmatic point of view, and other beliefs became a pretext for military conflicts. Silesians, headed by Wrocław, used religion as their presentation. The people of Wrocław were very proud about their victories against Hussitic and called landlords of Glatz like Hussitic heretics. Even though both of them Hynek Krušina from Lichtenburg and Jiří z Poděbrad with his sons supported Catholic institutions on their territory.
