Pieleszová, Katarzyna ; Vostrejž, Dušan (referee) ; Odvárka, Antonín (advisor)
The submission of this thesis was preceded by a specialised studio „Brněnské nábřeží a kulturní čtvrť Ponava“. This work focused on a complex urban architectural solution to the area around the former “Jaselská kasárna”, the urban context, transport services, the field configuration etc. The thesis follows this project in a section defined by streets U Červeného mlýna, Staňkova and Střední. The goal of the thesis lies in the creation of an intensive goal – a cultural area, which will offer a high-quality space for intergenerational communication and new social experiences and activities. It newly connects the urban part Ponava with the town center of Brno by a high-quality axis for pedestrian and cycling transport. The project of this cultural area arose after a thorough analysis of surrounding, intercity and global relations as a combination of aims: for children – the elementary art school with graphic and dancing fields, for seniors – leisure time center, and for all together - a multifunctional concert hall and a revitalized area of the former industrial zone of furniture production to a multipurpose intergenerational area with a modern art gallery, offices for young businessmen, architects and artists, and a music club in the basement of the gallery.
Law in the age of uals
Eliáš, Karel
In this study, the author reflects on law and lawyering in modern times. The term ual was coined by philosopher and economist Tomas Kulka. It denotes intellectuals without intellect - a typical ual is a university graduate who knows what is currently intellectually fashionable, knows what is socially passé in scientific discourse and what is currently being debated, likes to boldly engage in discussions with references to fashionable authorities (Derrida, Foucault ...) and by choosing words such as paradigm, post- (modernism, etc.) and other incantations that they usually do not understand in depth. The result is chatter and superficiality. Law is one area where the Uali entity can present itself well. Weyr nearly a century ago and Bejcek quite recently characterized our law schools as law school puppy mills that have little in common with the ethos of universities. This is reflected among academics in faculties where conformism is growing, subject to bureaucratic evaluation of scholarship - how much one writes and where one publishes is more relevant. The result is a limited ability of practitioners to apply the law and the threat of turning lawyering into pedantry. The legislature is happy to accommodate this by proliferating statutory rules, progressively more and more detailed, and so the circle is complete. The author concludes by pointing out that society and science have found themselves in comparable situations several times, but that the voice of reason has always prevailed in the end.
Ficino's conception of intellectual life and melancholy
Žáková, Karolína ; Rybák, David (advisor) ; Hauser, Michael (referee)
Marsilio Ficino was one of the leading exponents of Florentine humanism, which in the following centuries influenced great thinkers such as Galileo Galilei, Paracelsus and John Amos Comenius. The main subject of my interest is the problem of melancholy in relation to the intellectual life, as captured in Ficino's De libri tres, especially the De vita sana. The methodological framework of the history of philosophy will correspond to this topic. Melancholy has an ambivalent nature, in general it has been perceived as a benign disease, but in the case of intellectuals it is not merely a blight, but also their gift and a means by which they can devote themselves to their studies. The thesis will first set the main issue in the broader context of Ficino's Neo-Platonism and then turn to a comprehensive interpretation of the concepts of intellectual life and melancholy as perceived by Ficino, including the individual advice that Marsilio gave to scholars to improve their performance in their studies. At the same time, my aim is to show that the thoughts of a man who lived and worked in 15th century are still alive today, despite the marked difference between the times of humanism and modern science, influenced in particular by the philosophy of René Descartes. KEY WORDS melancholy, black bile,...

Travels to Utopia. The Image of Soviet Russia within the Czechoslovak Cultural Left in the Interwar Period.
Šimová, Kateřina ; Vykoukal, Jiří (advisor) ; Glanc, Tomáš (referee) ; Křesťan, Jiří (referee)
The proposed dissertation is devoted to the relations of the Czechoslovak cultural left to Soviet Russia in the interwar period. It focuses on the image of Soviet Russia, pointing out that for many Czechoslovak leftist artists and intellectuals it served as a framework for their own vision of an ideal socio-political arrangements. In their view, the image of Soviet Russia stood out as a utopia in the sense that the sociologist Karl Mannheim attributes to this phenomenon. The dissertation follows the evolution of this utopian image among the Czechoslovak cultural left in the early 1920s, maps the changes in its thematic structure and motives and follows its disintegration against the ideological split of the Czechoslovak cultural left in the late 1930s. This development is perceived through the analysis of travelogues in which left-wing artists and intellectuals presented their immediate impressions and experiences from this country. The semiotic text analysis method is being used for this purpose. By analysing the confrontational and transformative functions of the utopian image of Soviet Russia, the dissertation attempts to clarify the attitude of Czechoslovak artists and intellectuals towards Soviet Russia in the context of the socio-political situation of the interwar period and in the broader...
