Komparace využívání nástrojů Evropské centrální banky během ekonomických krizí
Harviščák, Erik
The diploma thesis compares the use of monetary policy tools by the European Central Bank during economic crises. Specifically, it compares the response to the economic crisis caused by the 2008 financial market crash and the economic crisis associated with the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. Since the establishment of the European Central Bank in 1998, these are the two most significant shocks in terms of economic development. The thesis analyzes the development of monetary policy tools used during the crisis based on available literature. Based on these tools, indicators for eurozone countries that reflect the use of monetary policy tools are analyzed and compared. These indicators include key interest rates, interbank interest rates, and interest rates for households and businesses, as well as an indicator of active loans in the eurozone and quantitative easing. Along with these indicators, macroeconomic indicators are analyzed in the thesis, including the development of the price level and prices on stock markets. Above all, indicators of interest rates and quantitative easing confirm the different response of the European Central Bank to the compared crises. During the first crisis, the focus was mainly on increasing interest rates, due the increasing price level. In contrast, during the pandemic, record-high funds were provided through quantitative easing programs to stimulate economic growth.

Hypothesis Testing of interest rates models
Petrík, Daniel ; Myška, Petr (advisor) ; Hurt, Jan (referee)
V předložené práci se zabýváme problematikou stochastického modelování úro- kových sazeb. Jedním z nejobvyklejších postup· je modelovat dynamiku úroko- vých sazeb pomocí stochastické diferenciální rovnice difúze, jejímiž základními kameny jsou funkce driftu a funkce difúze. Od 70. let 20. století byla navržena celá řada model· tohoto typu, a ačkoli se tyto modely neustále zdokonalují, vyvstává přirozená otázka, zda se historicky pozorované úrokové sazby skutečně takovými difúzními rovnicemi řídily. V této práci budeme právě uvedenou hypo- tézu testovat pro několik nejběžnějších jednofaktorových model· úrokové sazby první generace. Z historických dat odhadneme obecnou momentovou metodou a metodou maximální věrohodnosti parametry jednotlivých difúzních rovnic a následně provedeme statistické testy dobré shody proložení těchto rovnic pozo- rovanými daty. 1
High Frequency Identification of Monetary Policy Shocks in Sweden
Němčík, Erik ; Baxa, Jaromír (advisor) ; Kočenda, Evžen (referee)
Current effectiveness and functioning of one of the key instruments of monetary policy, the interest rate, has been debated around the world with an increasing intensity. Sweden, specifically, characterized by a recent low inflation period coupled with an experimental approach to monetary policy (utilizing both negative interest rates and quantitative easing) presents a peculiar case of interest. This thesis presents new evidence on the monetary policy transmission in Sweden during the low inflation period. To convey this, it utilizes the Proxy-SVAR method, where data from financial markets are used to identify monetary policy shocks and their propagation through the financial and macroeconomic variables. In particular, STINA-swaps are used as an instrumental variable in our main model of interest. The results strongly suggest dampened effectiveness of the repo rate, the Riksbank's main interest rate tool, in achieving the inflation target over the past decades. Price puzzle is present in all model variations applied and hence hints at the inability of the Swedish central bank to effectively control inflation via interest rate decisions. It is important to state that the results are robust to multiple econometric specifications, different inflation setups or estimation methods. Furthermore, the...
