Attitudes Towards the Death Penalty - April/May 2023

In its spring survey, the Public Opinion Research Centre examined attitudes of Czech citizens towards the death penalty. 42% of respondents hold the view the death penalty should exist in the Czech Republic, 51% oppose it. Since 1992, when 76% supported the existence of the death penalty, this support decreased for 34 percentage points, while opposition to the death penalty (13% in 1992) nearly quadruppled, and for the first time prevailed over support of the death penalty.
Citizens on the situation in Ukraine - June/July 2023

In a survey conducted during June and July 2023, the Center for Public Opinion Research asked a set of questions about the conflict in Ukraine. The research sought to find out whether people are interested in the development of the situation in Ukraine and whether they consider it to be a security threat to the Czech Republic, Europe and world peace, how citizens feel about the government's actions in support of Ukraine and how they assess possible measures by the international community.
Attitude of Czech Public to Accepting of Refugees from Ukraine – June/July 2023

In the survey, which was conducted between the end of May and the middle of the third decade of July 2023, the Centre for Public Opinion Research asked a set of questions about the attitudes of the Czech public towards accepting refugees from Ukraine. Specifically, the respondents expressed their attitudes towards the reception of Ukrainian refugees with regard to the possibility of their permanent settlement in the Czech Republic and their opinions on whether or not Ukrainian refugees are successfully integrated into our society. The survey also included a mapping of interest in current developments around this situation.\n\nMore than two-fifths (43%) of Czech citizens are interested in the situation of refugees from Ukraine.\n\n9% of citizens are in favour of the possibility of permanent settlement of Ukrainian refugees here, while another nearly two thirds (64%) prefer only temporary admission followed by return to their country of origin.\n\n46% of Czechs think that Ukrainian refugees are being integrated into our society, while the same proportion of the public thinks the opposite.\n\n \n\nAttitude of Czech Public to Accepting of Refugees from Ukraine - June/July 2023\n\nIn June and July 2023, the Public Opinion Research Centre questioned a set of questions about the attitudes of the Czech public to receiving refugees from Ukraine.

Public Opinion on Performance of President Petr Pavel - June/July 2023

In its regular survey in June and July 2023 the Public Opinion Research Centre focused on questions concerning the Petr Pavel's presidency.\n\nIn all areas examined, positive evaluations prevailed over critical ones.\n\nRelatively most favorably, the Czech public rated how the president takes care of the seriousness and dignity of his office (78%) and how he represents the Czech Republic abroad (76%).\n\nCzech citizens were the most critical of how the president influences the internal politics (30%) and how he is in contact with citizens and knows their problems (29%).\n\nCompared to his predecessors Václav Havel, Václav Klaus and Miloš Zeman the current assessment of president Petr Pavel is relatively good, as a better evaluation of any of examined aspects of presidential performance was just rarely seen.
Romanies and Coexistence with Them in View of Czech Public – April/May 2023

April and May survey of CVVM focused on public attitude and public relationships between Czech population and Romany minority. Survey showed that almost two thirds of Czech citizens (63%) see living together of Romany and non-Romany population as bad in Czech Republic generally. But since 2015 this negative perception decreased for 20 percentage points.

Public attitudes towards substance use and drug addiction - April/May 2023

In a survey conducted during April and May 2023, the The Public Opinion Research Centre (CVVM) asked a set of questions about public attitudes towards substance use. Respondents over the age of 15 rated the extent to which they considered it acceptable to consume certain addictive substances, specifically tobacco, alcohol, painkillers, sleeping or tranquillisers, cannabis drugs (e.g. marijuana, hashish) and drugs such as ecstasy, methamphetamine and heroin. They commented on selected statements about the problem of drug addiction, whether drug use is a problem in the Czech Republic as a whole or in their place of residence, and whether the relevant institutions in the Czech Republic deal adequately with the problem of drug use.
Czech public opinion on the rights of homosexuals - April/May 2023

In April and May 2023, a set of questions on the tolerance of Czech society towards homosexually oriented women and men was included in the regular Our Society survey. At the same time, citizens' attitudes were surveyed as to whether people with homosexual orientation should have the right to enter into registered partnerships, marry, adopt children from "institutions" - so-called children's homes, and adopt the children of their partner with whom they live and in whose upbringing they participate.
