Starykovska, Vladyslava ; Šťastná, Dagmar (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
Nowadays, information technology is actively incorporated into education worldwide, especially after the global pandemic. Advances and innovations in educational technology, such as access to the Internet, multimedia technology, and handheld devices, have led to significant changes in the way people interact and learn. A growing tendency toward the use of technology and its integration into the school curriculum has gained crucial importance. In particular, the use of a video as an audio-visual material in foreign language lessons has grown rapidly because of the increasing emphasis on the communicative approach, and the use of a video is a great stimulus and facilitator for foreign language teachers. The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to discuss the importance of using a video in engineering lessons taught in a foreign language and try to define the distinctive features of a high-quality educational video. A literature review is used to identify and examine relevant theories and methods related to the concept of an educational video. The review reveals that educational videos have emerged as a critical part of higher education, and they provide an important tool for delivering content in many flipped, blended, and online classrooms. Videos increase student engagement, which in turn helps improve their learning outcomes. The use of videos stimulates the cognitive processes of thinking, reasoning, problem-solving, decision-making, and creating. Videos take the student beyond recall-and-relate activities. The practical part reveals the process of creating educational video material and focuses on designing a series of educational videos for selected electrical engineering and information technology subjects taught in English.

ESP Speaking Activities for Students of Information Technology
Pospíšil, Ondřej ; Smutný, Milan (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
The term spoken language is used extensively to consult each vocally produced language and hand sign language. Spoken language production includes retrieval of information from memory, making plans for an articulatory program, executive control, and self-monitoring. These strategies can be associated with the domain names of long-term memory, motor control, and executive control. Spoken language production is logically divided into three fundamental steps: deciding what to express, determining how to express it, and expressing it. Although accomplishing conversational goals, structuring narratives, and modulating the ebb and flow of dialogue are inherently critical to know how people speak, psycholinguistic research of language production has mostly focused on the formulation of individual isolated utterances. Because of this, the evaluation of spoken classroom discourse performs an important role in providing vital insights into the complex nature of classroom structures, interactions, and relationships. This bachelor’s thesis shows how speech develops, what important principles from a grammatical and linguistic point of view must be followed, and lastly, it focuses on speech development considering that it is not a mother tongue. Speech activities must be developed in the right way, which is very important for a successful speaker. What an appropriate activity for the development of speaking should look like is described in the last chapter of the theoretical part of the bachelor’s thesis and in its practical part. The activities were designed with respect to the questionnaire distributed to 69 students of Brno University of Technology. The activities focus on the development of speaking skills in the information technology field of study.
Scrum Values and Principles: Design of a Multimedia Learning Environment for the Study Programme English in Electrical Engineering and Informatics
Borovskiy, Sergey ; Smutný, Milan (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
This bachelor’s thesis aims to provide a theoretical framework for the application of the Agile method, namely Scrum, into the English Language Teaching process. Besides, the thesis contains a practical part that serves as an illustrative example of such an implementation presented for demonstration purposes in an environment of a lightweight management software named Trello. The Content and Language Integrated Learning approach is used to assist in the accomplishment of the objectives set in the thesis. Provided that CLIL is a dual-focused method, the Trello board comprises the materials of the subject Electrical Engineering taught in the English in Electrical Engineering and Informatics study programme at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communications at Brno University of Technology. Therefore, the practical part combines both a professional subject and linguistically oriented materials.
Functions of Passive Voice Structures in Various Genres of ESP compared with Czech Language Use.
Zemánek, Dominik ; Ellederová, Eva (oponent) ; Baumgartnerová, Alena (vedoucí práce)
This thesis characterizes passive voice structures and their formation, meaning, usage, and functions based on the research of related literature. With its inherent change of word order, the passive voice provides writers with more options of text organization and enables them to emphasize some words while omitting others. Especially in scientific and administrative style, this can help direct readers’ attention to the subject matter, making the text impersonal and objective. The respective aspects of passive structures are described in terms of grammar, semantics, stylistics, and translation, and their use in Czech is also explained and contrasted with English. Subsequently, English for specific purposes is characterized, and finally, the frequency and functions of passives are analyzed in technical texts of three different genres. This serves to confirm and illustrate the differences between the genres and languages, as each English text is also compared with a similar Czech one.
