An application of parallel DiD and DD solvers

The paper describes solution of large scale linear systems arising from finite element analysis by parallel solvers, which use decomposition ideas. Namely, Displacement Decomposition and Domain Decomposition techniques are discussed.

The paper describe new results obtained by the author in estimates of the strengthened C.B.S. constant for hierarchical decomposition of conforming FE spaces. Also some results for nonconforming FE obtained in collaboration with S. Margenov and M. Neytcheva are mentioned.

Large Scale modelling in geomechanics: elasticity, thermo-elasticity and iterative solvers

Mathematical modelling of many geomechanical problems with the aid of the finite element method leads to high computational demands, which are concentrated in the solution of large-scale linear systems. This contribution adresses the solution of these systems by iterative methods based on CG and its generalizations, the use of space decomposition preconditioners and good initial guesses in a time stepping procedure.
Large scale FE analysis of stresses due to excavation and heating

Paper shows the requirements for the use of efficient iterative solvers and parallel high performance computing for solving linear systems, which arise from large scale 3-D finite element (FE) analysis of problems of elasticity and thermo-elasticity in geomechanics. We also summarize our experience and results relating to the use of problem decomposition iterative methods.
