On Harmonic Content of the Wake Behind a Circular Cylinder
Uruba, Václav ; Procházka, Pavel P.
The wake behind cylinder of circular cross-section is subjected to detailed analysis from the point of view harmonic content. The basic, fundamental frequency could be linked to well-known Bénard-von Kámán vortex street, it is called Strouhal frequency very often. However higher harmonics of 2nd and 3rd order have been detected, as well as important inharmonic partials. The topologies of the velocity flow-field corresponding to the harmonic is to be shown.
On the 3D Dynamics of the Wake Behind a Circular Cylinder
Uruba, Václav ; Procházka, Pavel P. ; Skála, Vladislav
Flow in the wake of a circular cylinder is studied experimentally using time-resolved stereo PIV method. Special attention is paid to 3D topology of dynamical structures. While the distribution of statistic quantities along the cylinder is uniform, and i.e. 2D, the instantaneous flow structure is fully 3D. Within the velocity fluctuating flow field the structures containing streamwise vorticity and velocity components are dominant. The POD modes connected with von Kármán vortex street are identified.
Anisotropy of Turbulent Flow around an Airfoil
Uruba, Václav ; Procházka, Pavel P. ; Skála, Vladislav
The flow around an airfoil is analyzed from the point of view turbulence anisotropy assessment. The turbulent flow-field in the vicinity of an airfoil is populated by vortices, in some locations they tend to regularity in orientation, i.e. to anisotropy. However in the wake behind the plate as well as in the core of the boundary layer on the plate suction side the turbulence is close to isotropic state.
Structure of the Wake Behind an Airfoil
Uruba, Václav ; Procházka, Pavel P. ; Skála, Vladislav
The wake behind an inclined plate simulating airfoil is to be studied experimentally. The vortical structures are identified eventually. Theirs topology and dynamical behaviour is to be studied in details using the Proper Orthogonal Decomposition method. The stereo time resolved Particle Image Velocimetry technique is used for the experimental research. The vortex trains with oblique orientation and chequered topology have been detected.
Flow in Branched Channel
Uruba, Václav ; Procházka, Pavel P. ; Skála, Vladislav
Flow in a branched channel is investigated experimentally using the PIV method. The branches are issuing from the main cannel perpendicularly, all channels are of rectangular cross-section. The time-mean flow-fields in the main channel and in the branches are studied in details.
On 3D Structure of Wake Behind an Inclined Plate
Uruba, Václav ; Procházka, Pavel P. ; Skála, Vladislav
The flow-field behind an inclined plate was investigated experimentally using stereo PIV method providing all 3 velocity vector components in the measuring plane. Flow structure in several measuring planes perpendicular to the main flow was studied. Statistical characteristics were evaluated in the measuring planes. The downwash angle was assessed as well to consider its effect on the lift generation mechanism. The dynamical behavior was studied using Proper Orthogonal Decomposition of velocity fields in measuring planes. The dominant (most energetic) structures were evaluated and presented. The detected structures are of the form of streamwise vortices combined with high-and low-velocity streaks.
Pod analysis of stereo PIV data from wake behind an inclined plate
Uruba, Václav ; Procházka, Pavel P.
The motivation of the experiments is to study the flow dynamics and topology behind an airfoil. The airfoil is modeled by a simple flat plate with rounded leading and trailing edges. To obtain an information about the 3D structure of the flow the stereo PIV method is applied in the plain behind the plate oriented perpendicularly to the main flow. The flow dynamics topology could be studied using POD method revealing the most energetic fluctuation topologies. The POD is typically applied on a 2-component vector fields. In the presented paper the POD will be used for 3-component vector field resulting from the stereo PIV method.
Flow Dynamics in the Vicinity of Tandem Buildings
Gnatowska, R. ; Kellnerová, Radka ; Uruba, Václav
The flow-field in the vicinity of tandem building model in a wind tunnel will be subjected to analysis of dynamics. The model is 3D consisting of the two blocks of different sizes arranged in a streamwise direction. Experiments were performed using time-resolved PIV technique in several measuring planes to capture both spatial and dynamical features.
