Electrochemical Investigation of Polylactic Acid/Carbon Black Composite Filament for the Manufacture of 3D Printed Electrodes

Fused deposition modeling 3D printing has recently attracted increasing attention as an inexpensive, fast, reliable, adaptable and environmentally friendly tool to fabricate electrodes and electrochemical cells from composites of thermoplastics and carbon nanostructures. In this work, we use electric conductance measurements and cyclic voltammetry employing Ru(acac)30/1- as an electroactive probe to demonstrate that commercial polylactic acid(PLA)/carbon black composite filaments may be readily used as functional working electrodes in aqueous electrolytes. We further devise a procedure that leads to an improvement of their electrochemical performance. Characteristics of composite filaments treated by the optimized procedure approach those of classical metallic electrodes.
Utilization of carbon-based solid electrodes to electrochemical oxidation of acyclovir

Electrochemical oxidation of acyclovir at glassy-carbone electrode and boron-doped diamond electrode gives one pH-dependent oxidation signal; the corresponding electrode reaction is controlled by diffusion. It is followed by a second indistinctive signal in the pH range 2,0 - 9,0. Further, optimization of conditions was carried out for determination of acyclovir using DC and DP voltammetry. The calibration dependence on GC electrode in B−R buffer (pH = 6,0) is linear only in the concentration range from 2 to 10 μmol∙l−1 for DCV with limit of detection 0,38 μmol∙l−1; for DPV it is not linear. BDD electrode has to be activated to prevent its passivation. Anodic activation at +2,4 V for 15 s with simultaneous stirring of solution results in relative standard deviation of 0,9% for acyclovir concentration of 1∙10−4 mol∙l−1. Using DCV and DPV methods linear concentration dependences were obtained in 0,1 mol∙l-1 nitric acid and in pH 6,0 B−R buffer. The lowest limit of detection and limit of quantification (LOD = 0,47 μmol∙l−1 a LOQ = 1,55 μmol∙l−1) and linear range from 0,6 to 100 μmol∙l−1 was reached in pH 6,0 B−R buffer. Analysis of very low pollutant concentrations in air and their photocatalytic oxidation

For preparation of the mesoporous thin layers of TiO2 of define structure was used a sol-gel method in combination with structure directing surface-active agents. Various properties of the layers, such as size of surface area, thickness, porosity, light absorption ability and their relationschip to photocatalytic activity during NO oxidation, were investigated. A significant influence of these properties to activity of the photocatalyst was proved.
Antiphospholipid syndrome and complications during pregnancy

Antifosfolipidový syndrom je autoimunitní onemocnění charakterizované středními až vysokými hladinami antifosfolipidových protilátek v krvi a rekurentními venózními nebo arteriálními trombózami. V souvislosti s těhotenstvím byl APS definován jako jedna z příčin opakovaných těhotenských ztrát, ke kterým může dojít kdykoli v průběhu těhotenství. Na rozdíl od sporadických těhotenských ztrát, ke kterým nejčastěji dochází v období pre-embryonálním a embryonálním, u žen s APS je pozorována neobvyklá proporce těhotenských ztrát v období fetálním. Těhotenství žen s pozitivními antifosfolipidovými protilátkami jsou navíc komplikována placentární insuficiencí, předčasným porodem, preeklampsií a intrauterinní růstovou retardací. Tyto důsledky vyplývají z rozmanitého působení antifosfolipidových protilátek, jejichž nejčastějšími mechanismy jsou navození hyperkoagulačního stavu systémově nebo lokálně v uteroplacentární jednotce a zasahování do procesu invaze trofoblastu, jeho růstu a funkce. Opakované těhotenské ztráty jsou v současnosti považovány za léčitelnou komplikaci spojenou s antifosfolipidovým syndromem.
