In the first part, the dissertation focuses on historical evolution of tourist trade and recreation. Further on, based on erudite literature used, defines basic notions from the sports tourist trade area. Second part is dedicated to individual possibilities of sports-recreational activities in the Czech Republic and to the interest of Czech residents in spending their free time by engaging in sports. The interest is supported by results of field research (Czech variant of international research ISSP 2007 and own survey research). In the end of the dissertation an increasing interest of Czech residents in sports recreation is confirmed and also an effort of conductors and owners of the facilities (SRC) to enrich and improve the quality of the offered services is validated. This dissertation shows also some new facts and offers an insight into many more topics that deserve further studies in the future.
