Open educational resources in context of environmental studies

The dissertation deals with the issue of open educational resources (OER) in the context of environmental studies. The thesis has been framed as a set of four thematically related studies published as peer-reviewed articles in relevant professional journals. The introductory section deals with the broader context of the issue of open educational resources and clarifies the thematic context of individual publications. The first study discusses the issue of open educational resources, the evaluation of their quality and possibilities of use in environmental disciplines; at the same time, it analyzes various types of resources available for environmental education in the Czech environment. Based on this, research was carried out among students of environmental disciplines at Czech universities on a sample of 233 respondents. The results of the research are presented in the second study, which focuses on quality assessment, while the third study deals with the general methods of OER use. Findings show that the most widely used resource among students is Wikipedia, which they also consider to be a relatively high-quality resource. Competitive Intelligence

The dissertation focuses on information support for the strategic management of universities in the Czech Republic, using competitive intelligence as a framework. Qualitative and quantitative research methods - text analysis, questionnaire survey and conceptual modelling - have been used to achieve the goal of the dissertation.Current state of the topic is reviewed both from the global and Czech perspective, with a special emphasis on legal and economic environment in which Czech universities operate. Strategic and organizational aspects of the information support provided to university management are evaluated. Data necessary for the provision of information support are also discussed. The key role of university libraries in the information support for university strategic management is identified.Categorization of internal and external information sources forming the data base for the strategic management support and the conceptual model of the data base are the main results of the dissertation. The issue of lifelong learning in the context of the profession of librarian and information professional in health care. Needs analysis and a proposal of the concept

The thesis focuses on the profession of librarian and information professional in health care in the context of lifelong learning. The target group are professionals of information institutions in the network of public health information services in the Czech Republic. Content analysis of Czech and foreign materials and sociological quantitative research carried out by questionnaires in the Czech Republic's health information institutions are methods for analysing the needs of the librarian and information specialist in the health care sector in the Czech Republic. The output is a proposal of the concept of a lifelong professional education program called Competencies of the medical librarian for the performance of library and information activities. The lifelong education of medical librarians in connection with the concept of lifelong education of librarians in the Czech Republic is a process that will enable to gain necessary qualifications (professional knowledge and skills, general skills and soft skills) to perform this responsible and demanding profession.
Comparative analysis of database vendors services

(anglicky) Database vendors are traditional significant subjects of informaton industry. Today they operate on the information market for almost 50 years, during that time their services have changed. This master thesis aims to examine and basically analyze the actual offer of their services, compare chosen features of them and to carry out evaluation of the services. The text presents database vendors and so called aggreggators and their traditional services. Also the price policy of the database vendors is mentioned. Case study of the offer of services of four database vendors is performed. The results demostrated, that traditional services of database vendors are still significant part of their product offer. But the form has changed. And some subject also offer services not typical for traditional database vendors.
Comparison of development and current state of the library of Geology Faculty of the Charles University in Prague and the CADIST Geosciences et Environment library in Paris

The aim of the thesis is to compare the historical development and current state of the Library of Geology at Faculty of Natural Sciences, Charles University in Prague and the CADIST Géosciences et Environnement library in Paris. In the Introduction, the development of both libraries, including historical contexts, is documented. In the second part of the thesis, the decomposition method of library systems is used to analyse the current state of both libraries. Data for the analysis was collected by the author, partly during her employment in the Library of Geology at the Charles University in Prague, and partly during the internship at the CADIST Géosciences et Environnement Library in Paris. In the third part, the comparison based on the comparative librarianship method, of both geological libraries is created. Consequently, the possibilities of innovation of the Library of Geology at the Charles University in Prague inspired by the CADIST Géosciences et Environnement Library in Paris, and the possibilities of future cooperation among branch-related libraries are proposed. Finally, the benefits of the work are assessed.
The role of the information specialist in the governmental administration institutions

The aim of the diploma thesis is to describe the basic characteristics and basic analysis of the information profession of the Czech Republic in the sphere of state administration and state- controlled information institutions. Some space of the work is devoted to the characteristics of public and state administration. The diploma thesis emphasizes the institutions of state administration and their division. The following chapter deals with information institutions and information folders in the state administration and their categorization. The core of the thesis is the definition of the concept of an information specialist. The final chapter summarizes not only the overview of the information science study in the Czech Republic but also the analysis of the professional application of Information Studies and Librarianship graduates in the state administration institutions.
Reading in the Digital Age - Tablet in the Reader's Personal Information Environnement

Title: Reading in the Digital Age - Tablet in the Reader 's Personal Information Environment Author: Mgr. Tomáš Bouda Abstract: In this dissertation thesis we observed the phenomenon of reading in the context of personal information environment in digital age. An analysis of the evolution of reading and its implication on reading habits has been done. Secondly, we introduced phenomenology approach to study reading phenomena. The goal of the qualitative research was to describe an experience of intensive tablet users while reading scientific literature in digital format. Interpretative phenomenological analyses and Positive and negative affect scale (PANAS) were used as research methods with six participants. Conceptual structure representing the phenomenon has been developed as an outcome. It contains a) broader context of personal information environment, b) reading, annotating and underlining of digital text and c) reading experience with a focus on somatosensory perception. Comparison with two similar research studies has been done. As a practical outcome, several weaknesses in a design of tablets and reading applications were identified.
