It also deals with the way how these technologies influence people and our society. In the thesis, both positive and negative aspects of these technologies are described.

Emerging Trends in Dendrochronology

This thesis deals with a description of current and experimental methods of sample extraction with the increment borer, cuts from sawn logs, photos, X-rays, computed tomography and magnetic resonance in the field of dendrochronology. This work deals with destructive and non-destructive sample acquisition methods. Difference between the possibilities of usage of these methods is also emphasized: whether or not is it possible to use destructive methods - especially the case of the rare archaeological objects. Along with the description of current optometric method other methods of image processing based on contrast recognition for the purpose of the tree ring recognition are given. Description of different software methods are given with the respect to the data input (image or data series). Other differences are in the spectre of interest of presented programs, some of them are programed to analyse the rings from input image whereas some deal only with narrow spectre of dendrochronology such as faults in tree ring formation or poorly recognizable rings.

Photovoltaic power plants and their design

This bachelor thesis deals with photovoltaic power plants and their design. A significant part of the work focuses primarily on manufacturing technologies and the type and method of producing various types of photovoltaic cells; further the work focuses on basic components of photovoltaic power plants such as solar panels, batteries, controllers, inverters, transformers and optimizers. This thesis also includes a practical part, which deals with the power plant location conditions, factors influencing the power plants energy yield and a practical description of the construction and individual components. The practical part is completed by the comparison of two already existing power plants owned by GEEN Holding a.s., where the author describes, compares and evaluates their technological solution.

Modern Imaging Techniques in Medicine

The aim of this work is to describe physical phenomena and basic principles relevant to individual imaging methods and to compare them. The bachelor thesis describes generation of x-rays, interaction of x-rays with various media and methods of detecting the x-rays. In addition, the work describes basic principles of creating 3D images using computed tomography and individual generations of CT machines. Lastly, the work aims on the principle of nuclear magnetic resonance and basic parameters for creation of MRI images.

The engineer of the 21st century

The semester thesis is focused on the identification of the roles of an engineer of the 21st century. It addresses possibilities and required skills needed for engineering activities and describes numbers of global challenges that should be resolved by the engineers in the new century. These are problems of the different areas of science and technology, including social and ethical aspects of these problems. Furthermore, the work defines the main engineers’ job duties as well as the rules of professional engineering ethics and assigns them to specific professions. The final chapter of the semester thesis points up the important role of engineering education in society and describes the challenges the education faces in the 21st century.

Analysis of Communication Protocols and Modules in Wireless M-Bus

The thesis aims to present the topic of allocating costs of heating and water in individual flats and industrial buildings. Firstly, data are elaborated theoretically and divided according to the type of meter and the type of reading of values on the meters. In addition to that, this part of the thesis also deals with security features against possible damage to the meters which can be caused by customers. Secondly, basic parameters of four embedded modules supporting Wireless M-Bus are explained and then compared in a table. The last part of the thesis focuses on the introduction to analysis of data telegrams transmitted by the meters according to the standards. The main contribution of this work is a better comprehension of wireless remote reading of heat, water meters and heat cost allocators.
