Legitimní, legální a spravedlivá válka : nový pohled na právní a oprávněné použití ozbrojené síly v mezinárodních vztazích
Kolín, Vilém ; Moravcová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Ondřej, Jan (referee) ; Palouš, Martin (referee)
All chapters of this work are meant to help the reader think about the present day problem as to when the use of force in international relations is either lawful or justified. What I hope will clearly emerge from the text is that this and related issues are not brand-new but often old and recurrent. But even if these problems were new, it would help us to think about them by seeing what has been said and done about them in the past. When the chapters that follow seem to muddy the water, the reader may be comforted to know that this work seeks to build a powerful, overarching and binding structure of consistent argument. The early identification of what is meant here by legality and legitimacy in relation to the use of force in international relations, what methodology is used and how the argument is structured to meet the objective of this work will I hope help the reader stay focus as the examination unfolds.

Politics of "splendid isolation" and the problem of the British-German relations 1890-1904
Komm, Tomáš ; Soukup, Jaromír (advisor) ; Moravcová, Dagmar (referee)
The Bachelor thesis The Policy of "Splendid isolation" and the Anglo-German Relations 1890-1904 examines the nature of Anglo-German relations at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. In this period, Britain abandons her policy of "Splendid isolation" and from 1898 to 1901 negotiates an alliance with Germany. However, these negotiations fail and both Powers come into conflict in the Great War, 15 years later. This study aims at the concept of "Splendid isolation" and tries to find factors, which enabled Great Britain to maintain such a policy, as well as reasons which led to its end. In addition, this study analyses key affairs, which influenced mutual relations of both Powers. Particular chapters are arranged according to the time perspective and deal with: the policy of the "New course", Heligoland treaty, the inflouence of Liberal government in 1892-1895, German attempts of creating Continental alliance, Krüger telegram, German naval programm, Weltpolitik, Alliance negotiations and finaly Anglo-Japanese treaty in 1902 and Entente cordiale in 1904. This Bachelor thesis is a case study and uses the empirical-analytical approach.
The Brandt's Ostpolitik
Soběhart, Radek ; Stellner, František (advisor) ; Moravcová, Dagmar (referee) ; Vaněk, Miroslav (referee)
The dissertation "Brandt's Ostpolitik" deals with the concept of Brand's foreign politics towards Eastern Europe. The concept was not only a short-term plan after Brandt gained government functions after 1966, but it is concerned with the essence of understanding of Willy Brand's policy. The paper views the topic from three different points. The first area consists of an ideological-theoretical level that focuses especially on the analysis of long-term trends of Brandt's Eastern Policy. Therefore, it distinguishes from existing approaches, which apply the concept only to the period of 1969-1974, when Brandt ruled the Federal Republic of Germany, but also from academic papers that consider the second Berlin crisis and the Berlin wall construction to be the beginning of the Eastern politics. One of the conclusions of the dissertation shows the necessity to search for the roots of Brandt's policy already in his stay in exile in Norway and Sweden, due to the fact that Brandt obtained basic idea about the way parliamentarian democracy works there, and about the importance of European cooperation for the after-war recovery of Europe and Germany. Thanks to the fact that he did not spend the period of the World War II in the German area, he became a symbol of "different, better" democratic Germany after...
The Correlation between the Speed of the Source Speech and Simultaneous Interpreter's Performance.
Moravcová, Dagmar ; Čeňková, Ivana (advisor) ; Sládková, Miroslava (referee)
The purpose of the present thesis is to look into the correlation between the speed of the source speech and simultaneous interpreter's performance between Czech and French from the perspective of the French listeners of the source speeches in French, of two groups of interpreters (students and professionals) and of the listeners of the speeches interpreted into Czech. The thesis consists of the theoretical and the empirical part. The theoretical part outlines Daniel Gile's Effort Model and than focuses on the delivery rate of the source speech and on various theoretical approaches of different scholars, on the errors occured in the process of simultaneous interpreting, on intrepretation strategies and on the quality of interpretation. The empirical part describes the research method, the experiment itself and the results of the experiment which focuses both on the number of occurences of different interpretation stategies in relation to the source speech delivery rate and on the number of occurences of various error categories depending on the speed of the quasi-authentic source speeches. The empirical part examines the differences between the performance of the students and of the interpreters. Their performance is then assessed by the Czech listeners. Keywords simultaneous interpretation,...
Seeking community reconciliation through traditional practice. The Sierra Leonean experience
Werkman, Kateřina ; Moravcová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Záhořík, Jan (referee) ; Kandert, Josef (referee)
Sierra Leone was torn apart by a violent conflict that lasted for over a decade between 1991 and 2002. The deep physical and emotional scars it left on the people and their communities and the destruction of the country's socio-economic and institutional foundations are still visible today. But Sierra Leoneans have also shown an extraordinary ability to deal with the painful and violent past and to move on. This does not mean that the victims would be able to easily forget the suffering they endured or that the return and (re)integration of the ex-combatants into the society would always go smoothly and effortlessly. Yet, if you ask around in the villages across the country, people almost always answer the same: "We have reconciled". What do they mean by that? And how have they achieved it? These questions form the core puzzle of the present thesis. It explores the process of reconciliation and restoration of relationships at village level in Sierra Leone, with a particular focus on the role of local ceremonies. While its main concern is with the specific circumstances in Sierra Leone, it also aims to contribute to the debates in transitional justice and peacebuilding fields regarding the 'local' practices of reconciliation in African post-conflict societies. The thesis argues that Sierra Leonean...

Říšová, Zuzana ; Jeřábek, Martin (advisor) ; Moravcová, Dagmar (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the European politics of the Federal Republic of Germany during the government of the Angela Merkel's cabinets. The thesis is focusing on the time period from 2005 to winter 2010/2011. This period can be split into two parts: 1) the government of the big coalition of the "Union" parties (CDU/CSU) and the Social Democrats (SPD) and 2) the current conservative-liberal coalition of CDU/CSU and the Liberals (FDP). The aim of the thesis is to compare both the cabinets concerning on their priorities in chosen areas of the European politics, as well as the particular steps taken. Several case studies show that the European politics of the Angela Merkel's big coalition can be evaluated as considerably pro-integration and cooperative. The Chancellor improved the Germany's relationship to the middle- and eastern European countries and significantly contributed to the discussion of the new European reform treaty. This resulted into a stronger position of Germany in Europe. The government period of the conservative-liberal coalition is connected with the ending world economic and financial crisis and the economic problems of several member states of the Euro zone. The analysis of this period confirms the hypothesis that facing this situation, the European politics of the...

EU sanctions against Austria in 2000 in the context of the position of Austria in the European Union. Application of the constructivist theory on the case
Dobiašová, Terézia ; Jeřábek, Martin (advisor) ; Moravcová, Dagmar (referee)
diplomové práce v anglickém jazyce: EU sanctions against Austria in 2000 in the context of the position of Austria in the European Union. Application of constructivist theory on the case The Master thesis EU sanctions against Austria in 2000 in the context of the position of Austria in the European Union. Application of constructivist theory on the case tried to analyse the Austrian case from the constructivist perspective. The thesis attempted to verify the hypothesis that the Member States of the European Union wrongly assessed the impact of Haider's FPÖ on the Austrian democratic development and the European Union itself, claiming that the participation of the FPÖ in the Austrian federal government was jeopardizing its democratic values. In fact there was no evidence for this allegation despite the nature of the FPÖ which was confirmed as being far-right in some aspects (for instance its xenophobia). It has been shown that the participation of the FPÖ in the Austrian government (rather than its isolation, which might have led to even bigger support) was in a certain way a guarantee that democracy and the common values of the European Union would be upheld. Furthermore the thesis tried to answer the question whether the inclusion of the FPÖ in the governmental coalition had posed a real danger...
