Didactic use of selected localities of mining

This thesis is about 3 historical mining places in Bohemian massif in Czech Republic. In literature summary is every place introduced including geological history. In practical part of the thesis, there are 3 ideas for field trip, in each mining location there are shown basic information and main geological information with maps. Every field trip has its own worksheet with questions and tasks for students in age of 15-19 for improving their geological knowledge.
Historical Evolution of Earth and Organisms on Earth in Textbooks for Secondary Education

Teaching geology at lower and upper secondary school level in the Czech Republic consists of several compulsory thematic units established by the Framework Educational Programmes. Nevertheless, some topics are often not taught, despite they are included in textbooks. One of them is e.g. The Evolution of the Earth's Crust and Organisms on Earth. In this bachelor thesis the available textbooks are analysed according to this topic. The topic is discussed in terms of educational content, namely the occurrence and explanation of key concepts, selected subject matter and individual geological periods. Furthermore, the clarity of interpretation of this topic, cross curricular and interdisciplinary relations and additional information and questions for pupils were analysed. Based on the obtained information, one block of lessons was designed. It follows constructivist approach to learning and respects the current requirements for the modern concept of teaching. Main aim of the proposed lessons is to support the interest in chosen topic and to convey it to pupils and teachers in a more attractive way.
Granite in the Světlá nad Sázavou area

The diploma thesis summarizes the basic data about the geological structure of the wider area of Světlá nad Sázavou, acquaints with the history of granite mining in this territory and deals with the didactic use of the information found in the school and in the field. Author performing an excursion to the active quarry Horka with pupils of the 6th and 9th year of elementary school. The pupils' current knowledge of geological structures in the vicinity of Světlá nad Sázavou was verified before the excursion and after graduation the levels of knowledge were determined again. We found that it is possible to see if it is possible to carry out an evaluation, to test whether any further information is available. It was prepared for the pupils on a worksheet for a project day. For a closer acquaintance with granite and their suitable mind maps and didactic games, to fulfill materials (crossword, quad, memory, domino). Characteristics of garnets from the locality Dolní Olešnice and problematics of their source rocks

Pyrope is one of the representatives of the garnet supergroup, which are known for their use in jewellery and have a rich history in the Czech Republic. However, despite their long-term use, a part of the supergroup is still unexplored and the source rock is unclear at some localities, which makes it difficult to explain the development of the deposit and the formation of surrounding geological units. This bachelor thesis describes pyrope as a Czech garnet and summarizes views on the issue of its primary source rock in the Czech Republic. This thesis also deals with characterizing of pyropes from the locality of Dolní Olešnice and discusses their primary source rock, the geological situation of the surrounding area, the method of mining and the minerals of the heavy fraction. Based on the study of available literature, a wealth of information about the pyropes from Dolní Olešnice was gathered, which could be the basis for further more detailed research of the area and the localisation of the pyrope source rock here. A geochemical heavy minerals prospecting was also carried out on the site to assess the quality of the pyrope drifting ability for several recommended flows in the area. Požáry granite and its properties influencing durability

Požáry Granite, cropping out on NW margin of Central Bohemian Plutonic complex, is ranked to the most valuable decorative varieties of natural stone in the Czech Republic. The stone is characterised by plausible appearance, excellent polishing ability and favourable physical properties. It has been used for numerous structures and monuments in the Czech Republic and abroad. Despite declared favourable properties, it is prone decay, specifically on the polished surface. This bachelor thesis discusses granite petrology, their weathering and usage for decorative purposes. In the second part, the thesis summarizes current knowledge on Požáry Granite. The study focuses on its position within the Central Bohemian Plutonic Complex, mineralogy, petrology, usage, and historical/current exploitation. This bachelor thesis is generally aimed as introduction to the planned master thesis which should focus on experimental study of Požáry Granite.
Jeroným Mine near Čistá (Lauterbach): the current state of understanding and an update of geological research

The Jeroným Mine near Čistá is a typical locality of Central European historical mining. Preserved mining areas bearing the signs of the original mining methods are the subject of the monument protection and museum exposition. The mining of tin at the Jeroným Mine, according to preserved sources, dates back to the beginning of the 16th century. The paper summarizes the geological conditions of the wider area of the Slavkov Forest and the context of the Čistá deposit. We will outline the history of mining at the Jeroným Mine and its historical significance.
Applied Mineralogy in Forensic Science field

1 ABSTRACT Surprisingly, applied mineralogy plays an important role in the forensic science field. It is the miner- alogical phases which exist in many kinds of materials and traces but also the mineralogical analysis procedures which are often used in the field of so called trace evidence. For purposes of this study, 4 important fields of forensic microanalysis were chosen. These are those fields in which applied min- eralogy is applied and which characterize the width and heterogeneity of the concerned area. Powder X-ray microdiffraction plays quite an important and irreplaceable role not only in the direct phase analysis of substances in mixtures. The author designed, tested and introduced a set for centra- tion and direct check of the analysed surface during micro-diffraction analysis and also experimentally optimised sensing parameters for the different system configuration. A possibility to calculate the size of the nanoparticles (more precisely the size of a mono crystal domain) was tested. XRD methods ap- plication allows refining organic analysis for example in the case of new synthetic drugs. Micro diffrac- tion was also used for the first complex phase analysis of colour layers of the altar in the chapel in the castle of Křivoklát (dated 1480 - 1490). Decay of granites used for ashlar masonry in arch bridges

This thesis deals with the decay of the granite used for ashlar masonry in arch bridges. The aging process and the functionality decrease of the granite tend to be faster in building structures than in natural conditions. Therefore, this ongoing change need to be closely researched. At the beginning, the thesis is focused on general degradation effects on building stone, which can cause for example the reduction of material or finally its damage and destruction. Further, the character of the granite is analysed with the respect to its quality and resistance to negative influences. In this chapter, this thesis also deals with the classification of granitic rocks according to the composition and the structure, which determine the specific name of the rock. Finally, the granite stone is also used in the constructions of arched bridges as their supporting elements, namely vaults and pillars. This type of construction has been widely used in the past. One of the subchapters focuses on the case study of the Legií bridge in Prague, which is a stone arch bridge made of granite blocks. In particular, the author describes the analysis of the sample, which was processed in the petrographic laboratories at the Faculty of Science of Charles University.
