Competitive Intelligence

The dissertation focuses on information support for the strategic management of universities in the Czech Republic, using competitive intelligence as a framework. Qualitative and quantitative research methods - text analysis, questionnaire survey and conceptual modelling - have been used to achieve the goal of the dissertation.Current state of the topic is reviewed both from the global and Czech perspective, with a special emphasis on legal and economic environment in which Czech universities operate. Strategic and organizational aspects of the information support provided to university management are evaluated. Data necessary for the provision of information support are also discussed. The key role of university libraries in the information support for university strategic management is identified.Categorization of internal and external information sources forming the data base for the strategic management support and the conceptual model of the data base are the main results of the dissertation. Seniors and the issue of digital divide

Tato disertační práce se zabývá tématem digitální propasti, která je řešena z hlediska seniorů a práce s internetem. V dnešní době rozmachu technologií a jejich penetrace do všech sfér života je nezbytné, aby starší lidé nebyli digitálně vyloučeni a mohli plnohodnotně využívat všech výhod a zjednodušení, které internet a technologie přináší. Prostředkem k získání digitálních kompetencí je vzdělávání v oblasti informační gramotnosti, které může být poskytováno prostřednictvím sítě knihoven. Práce představuje celý teoretický rámec problematiky, nicméně hlavním přínosem je výzkumná a aplikační část. Výzkumy probíhaly v kvalitativní i kvantitativní rovině a přinesly odpovědi zejména na otázky, jakým způsobem dnes senioři internet využívají a o jaká témata jeví největší zájem z hlediska svého dalšího vzdělávání. Kvantitativního výzkumu se účastnilo více než 750 osob a na základě výsledků dotazníku bylo možné navrhnout metodickou příručku pro vzdělávací lekce. Příručka obsahuje návrh deseti lekcí s tématy, která jsou podložená získanými daty. Dvě z těchto lekcí byly otestovány v rámci evaluačního výzkumu. Příručka existuje ve formě e-knihy a je volně šířena mezi knihovny a další instituce.
The concept of information education in the library of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen

The diploma thesis focuses on the development of information literacy and information education in university libraries. Based on theoretical and practical knowledge, the aim of the thesis is to propose a concept of information education in the university library of the University of West Bohemia. First, the theoretical part introduces key terms, content, implementable forms and current approach to information education in the context of the university environment. Moreover, it also specifies the current role of the university library as a provider of information education and defines the main competencies of a librarian as an education coordinator or lecturer. Next, the thesis provides an overview of the current activities aimed at literacy development at the university library. The practical part describes in detail the course of quantitative survey of student needs and preferences related to the analysed issue. The final part of the thesis is based on the research results and facts obtained from the analysis of the current educational programs. It proposes a concept of information education, which defines possible changes to the current situation and offers recommendations for future development of the university library so that it can realize its full potential in this area.
The implementation of Digital Object Identifier at the univerisities in Czech Republic: experience and recommendations

(in English): The aim of this thesis is to present persistent identification system of digital object identifier and analyze of use of DOI on a sample of public universities in the Czech Republic. The first part introduce the DOI system, its structure, advantages and examples of use in recent time. The second part is focused on analysis of current use of DOI in public univeristies. To fullfil this purpose researched questions were stated. Data was collected were determined in questionaire survey and semi structured interview. The conclusion of thesis proposes a direction of further reflection towards improvement of current situation.
Project Bookstart: the potential for further development in the Czech Republic

This diploma thesis deals with the international project Bookstart and its potential for further development in the Czech Republic. The first part is devoted to terminology and definitions of pre-reading literacy, reading literacy and functional literacy. In addition, selected Czech and foreign projects promoting reading literacy are presented. At the end of the theoretical part of the thesis, attention is paid to the introduction of the project Bookstart, the experience with its course abroad, and mapping the pilot year of the project in the Czech Republic. The practical part of the thesis presents qualitative research in the form of two semi-structured interviews, and quantitative research conducted using an online questionnaire. Information behaviour of secondary school teachers

This thesis focuses on information behaviour of secondary school teachers in Hradec Králové area. The research is orientated at information needs, sources, searching and evaluation of information relevance by teachers. Survey includes quetionnaires and interviews. Results are compared with other research in the similar field of study. The research showed that secondary school teachers know their information needs, are able to satisfy their information needs. Information education of distance students in academic libraries of public universities in the Czech Republic

This diploma thesis deals with information education of students of distance and combined study at public universities in the Czech Republic. The thesis is divided into the theoretical and practical part. The first part of the thesis introduces concepts related to information education, characterizes the system of higher education in the Czech Republic and describes the specifics of distance and combined form of study. The theoretical part also contains a chapter on information education of distance learning students abroad. The practical part describes the research of educational activities for students of distance / combined study at Czech public universities. The research forms used in the thesis are questionnaire survey and content analysis of the documents of individual colleges of libraries. The conclusion of the paper contains a summary and recommendations for improvement.
Children's literature and its use in bibliotherapy

(in English): This bachelor thesis deals with bibliotherapy in children's literature in the Czech territory and its employment. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and an analytical part. In the first chapter of the theoretical part, the concept of bibliotherapy, its division, and types are defined, together with its origin and historical development. The second chapter of the theoretical part describes the development of children's literature in the Czech territory, which specific genres appeared there and which authors produced children's literature. The analytical part is divided into two main chapters. The first chapter of the analytical part contains a list of appropriate bibliotherapeutic literature for children of pre-school age (3-6 years) and of younger school age (6-11 years) which focuses on the themes of death, the loss of a close person; bullying, xenophobia, racism; changes in one's family, changes of the environment; illness and disability. In the second chapter of the analytical part, there is an interview with a librarian from the Kroměříž Library, Marcela Kořínková. The conclusion summarizes the findings which have been discussed in the bibliographic research and the interview.
Public libraries in the Czech Republic and the deaf users: current situation and recommendations for service development

The main goal of this thesis is to recieve information about deaf users in libraries from their own point of view. Their motivation, needs and potential problems they face when using library services. This thesis is divided into four parts. In the first chapther of theoretical part are the deaf introduced as cultural and linguistic minority. The second chapter is focused on problems and struggle with reading and perception of text which the deaf face. In the last chapter are presented and compared the services for the deaf in the Czech republic and foreign countries. In the practial part of this thesis are analyzied interwies with the deaf on the topic of visiting public libraries. From its outcomes are developed reccomendations fo further development of library services.
