Comparison of the teaching of literature at Czech and French secondary schools

The thesis deals with the issue of the literary canon. It compares the requirements of the school- leaving exam in the mother tongue and the literature in the Czech Republic and in France and it explores different approaches to the interpretation of the literary work and to the textual analysis. The thesis analyzes skills and knowledge that pupils demonstrate in the school-leaving exam, proportions of the linguistic and the literary parts, requirements for the academic writing and the oral speech and types of the outputs of the school-leaving exam. Furthermore, it deals with the approach to the teaching of the literary education in the Czech Republic in the 21st century with regard to the French approach. Historical, cultural and social background that influenced today's perceptions of literature in both countries is discussed. In the research part the conclusions of analyzes of the Czech and French textbooks of literary education are presented. The aim is to compare the different approaches to the content and to the structuring of the curriculum, as well as the approaches to the work with the literary text. Children's books from the Baobab publishing house for pre-schoolchildren and their role in the development of the reading literary

The aim of this diploma thesis is to describe the uniqueness of the Baobab publishing house books for pre-school children and to find out what is the opinion of parents and pre- school teachers on selected books from this publishing house, on their content and on their graphic design. In the theoretical part I describe and explain the basic concepts of the reading literacy. I also devote to the contemporary situation in the book market for children, especially pre- school children, mostly non-readers. I focus on a small alternative publishing house called Baobab, its book production for children in general, and on its awarded books. In the empirical part I interviewed parents (41 returned questionnaires altogether) about their awareness and opinion on the Baobab publishing house and on selected books published by Baobab, namely Jak zvířataspí (How Animals Sleep), Šmalcova ABECEDA (Šmalec's Alphabet) and Z domu a zahrady (From the House And the Garden). I also interviewed 7 pre- school teachers to find out about their awareness of the Baobab publishing house and about their opinion on the selected books. Fanfiction in context of teaching czech language

This diploma thesis deals with applying fanfiction to the Czech language and literature lessons for the 2nd stage of basic school. The main focus is on writing with esthetical focus. First part deals with fanfiction set on its application in education. Next part is studying the demands of Czech curriculum on teaching writing methods and the goals and methods of creative writing. Third part opens the possibilities of fanfiction and discusses reasons why fanfiction is useful. It gives ideas how to use fanfiction in education in specific ways to explore student's literacy and other skills. Last part contains four lesson plans based on work with fanfiction and its curriculum's themes. Three of these lessons were experienced with years 7, 8 and 9 students. Applying fanfiction seems to be useful, especially with theme setting and students' motivation.

ABSTRACT: This study focus is based on detailed analysis of reading strategy instruction abroad and possible strategies for application in Czech schools. The theoretical part of the study brings definition to the term reading strategies, and it maps different approaches to reading strategy instruction on the basis of relevant international studies. The empirical part is based on qualitative case study research methods. It presents a description and analysis of two Czech teachers; both are distinctive advocates of reading strategy instruction in the Czech Republic. The study shows how their values get reflected in their approach to reading strategy instruction and how they influence the way these teachers scaffold comprehension of their pupils. Pilsen regional folk-tales as a source of projects in nursery school

This thesis introduces a folk-tale as a basement for projects in nursery school. The main goal of the thesis is to show a regional folk-tale and its processing for projects, and as a whole the tale serves as a suitable device for fulfilling goals of preschool education. Theoretical part is focused on providing knowledge of literal theory, methodology of work with text in nursery school, drama education, development psychology and preschool education in context of Framework Education Programme for Preschool Education. A folk-tale, its origin in folk literature and a close relation with fairy-tale is introduced as well as its place in literature for children. Further, the tasks, aims and possibilities of literary production in nursery school are provided and the actual goal of reader literacy is shown. Next discussed topics are the possibilities of using a story, drama education and its methodology in preschool education. Czech Catholic poets in the lessons of literature at high schools

The purpose of this thesis is to examine methods, forms, and processes for presenting the lives and work of the Czech catholic poets Jan Zahradníček, Bohuslav Reynek, and Josef Kostohryz during high-school literature lessons. Furthermore, the objective is to propose ways of introducing the young generation of readers to catholic poetry as a source of existentialist questions pertaining to life and existence, deep personal experiences, and spirituality regardless of their individual religious beliefs and preferences. Since this thesis is primarily intended to serve as a tool for high-school teachers, the text contains an extensive section that describes the general aspects of the proposed didactic approach, where the aim is to facilitate orientation in the proposed concept on the one hand, and, on the other hand, to define the foregoing aspects because they constitute the basis of the concept. Use of Jan Neruda's Texts in Literature Classes

The theoretical part of the master's thesis first deals with the context of Jan Neruda's life and work and with the representation of Neruda's texts in post-revolutionary reading books for junior high school and high school. This part is based on the results presented in the author's bachelor's thesis Work of Jan Neruda in reading books. The next chapter follows the formation of Jan Neruda's image in literature textbooks for junior high school and high school published after 1989. The analysis of reading books and textbooks shows the remaining emphasis on the writer's poetic work even though his contribution to the field of feuilleton and modern prose is considered to be more important. The results of this analysis are used to elucidate the aim of the thesis, which is a new selection of Neruda's texts and the creation of the author's own textbook explanatory texts emphasizing the writer's feuilletons and prose work. The practical part of the thesis contains a questionnaire "mini-research" of pupils' and students' preconceptions regarding the personality and work of Jan Neruda. This research together with another "mini-research" of different teachers' conceptions of teaching about Jan Neruda form the basis for accomplishing the aims of the thesis. Trends of initial reading development and their practical application in Czech schools

The thesis deals with initial reading literacy in the first and second grade of elementary schools. The theoretical part defines the basic concepts related to the reading literacy. Some major studies, published from 1996 till 2015 and dealing with the reading literacy development are introduced further. The research chapter describes the qualitative research metodology identifies research goals and hypotheses, presents the timing of the research and the research sample. The methodological recommendations based on the data analysis obtained from the survey were organized into a handbook usable for all teachers. The whole research is summarized in the final chapter, the hypothesis have been confirmed . The answer to the key question, "How is the initial reading literacy developed by the teachers in the reading instruction?" revealed that the trend in the initial reading literacy development is the gradual comprehensive development of all the reading competences levels with the emphasis on the communication skills from the first school day. Reading Beads - a Project to Support Prereading Literacy of Preschool and Early Primary School Children

The bachelor thesis is dedicated to promotion of pre-reading literacy. This thesis describes current projects focused on development ofreading and pre-reading literacy. The thesis highlights the importance and impact of family and nursery school on development of pre- reading literacy and presents various ways of working with literature, as well as listeners' preferences of preschool children. The didactic part of this thesis refers to "Beads of reading" project, which supports both pre-school and young school-age children pre-reading and reading literacy.
