Quality of life of people with acquired hearing disability in adulthood

This thesis is focuced on the quality of life of people with acquired hearing disability in the age between forty and sixty years. In the theoretical part there are outlined physical, psychic and social characteristics of persons in the age range and then there are defined the elementary concepts concerning hearing impairment, diagnostics, compensation and there is also explained concept of the quality of life. Practical part of the thesis concentrates on a analysis of the qualitative research that the author of this thesis implemented. The aim of this thesis is especially to clarify how do people with the acquired hearing disability rate their quality of life - how do they interpret this construct, which aspects do they include, and how much does the acquired hearing disability influence their subjective quality of life. For that reason interviews with some informants were implemented. The results of the qualitative research shows that the essential effect on the quality of life of the individuals has their satistaction with their family life and their occupation. Informants describes occasional problems with communication that are caused by their acquired hearing disability, however, these problems does not influence the informants' subjective feeling of well being. Logopedic intervention provided to children in kindergarten for children with hearing impairment

This master's thesis deals with speech-language pathology (SLP) intervention provided in kindergartens to children with hearing impairment. The theoretical part of the thesis acquaints the reader with the topic of hearing problems, hearing compensation possibilities and the most commonly used communication strategies in the educational process of children with hearing problems. Continually, it describes the ontogenetic evolution of speech in children with hearing impairment and its specifics in different speech levels, aquaints with SLP intervention, its structure and organisation in Czech republic and describes frequently occuring types of disrupted communicational abilities in pre-school children. The closure of the theoretical part describes the pre-school education trends when it comes to children with hearing problems. The main goal of the practical part is to map out and comment on the way SLP intervention is provided in pre-schools for children with hearing impairment. Communication competencies of cochlear implant users and their school classification

The thesis "Communication Competence of Cochlear Implant Users and Their School Placement" deals with cochlear implants problematic and communication competence of preschool aged children with cochlear implants. The thesis focuses on communication skills and school placement of children with cochlear implants. The thesis is divided into two main parts, theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part deals with the application of cochlear implant and the rehabilitation process before and after intervention. It further focuses on the communication competence and the education of implant users. The empirical part includes ten specific cases of children with cochlear implants. Apply one's mind to their language abilities such as vocabulary, understanding and grammar. The empirical part shows that cochlear implant is beneficial to the language abilities. Phonemic hearing in preschool-age

The diploma thesis deals with the problem of phonemic differentiation in preschool children. The introductory part is focused on the specifics of preschool age, ontogenesis of speech and characterization of phonemic hearing. The aim of this thesis is to determine the level of phonemic differentiation in children with cochlear implant and children without hearing impairment. The results were obtained using a standardized test battery Evaluation of Phonemic Hearing in Preschool Children by authors Škodová, Mischek and Moravcová from 1995, which is created for this issue. Subsequently, the results of both groups were compared and individual differences in performance between children with cochlear implant and children without hearing impairment were examined. Research has shown that better results in phonemic distinction amounted children without hearing impairment, although the difference in success rate between the two groups was not significant. The main benefit of this work is the fact that the ability of phonemic differentiation is important in children with cochlear implant and its development should be part of rehabilitation care. Public awareness in the Czech Republic about hearing impairment

This bachelor thesis is focused on public awareness about hearing impairment in the Czech Republic. The main objective is to find more information about this topic. The first theoretical part describes basic theory, which is important for better understanding and orientation in hearing impairements issues. The practical part is dedicated to special education of people with hearing impairment, public attitudes towards people with this disability are also mentioned. This part is also focused on research with anonymous questionnaire, which includes questions about basic terms, knowledge of hearing impairment types, or experiences with meeting these people and how would respondents comunicate, if somebody with this disability asked for help. Questionaire is also focused on attitudes of respondents to hearing impairements and how they protect their own hearing. It implies from the research, that respondents are quite well informed about hearing handicaps, and that they are willing to help people with these disabilities despite their shyness. But even if they know how to protect their own hearing, they do not follow the rules of proper aural hygiene very much.
Communication of the child with delayed speech development in institucional care

The diploma thesis is focused on the theme of speech therapy. The thesis deals with problems of delayed speech development in pre-school children, especially their vocabulary. The main aim of the thesis is the evaluation of vocabulary as well as evaluation of awareness about possibilities of enrichment and indicative range of evaluation of vocabulary. The main investigation was realized by means of half-structuralized interviews with respondents, who spend the most time and are in the daily contact with evaluated children. Arose findings should help to increase the effectiveness of speech therapy in the field of speech content of children with delayed language development. The output of this thesis is the newly created testing materials that will help assess the indicative range of vocabulary in these children.
Senior with hearing impairment and his quality of life

The diploma thesis focuses on the quality of life of seniors with hearing impairment. The thesis involves introduction into hearing impairment as well as its definition, occurrence and classification of hearing disorders. The etiology, diagnostics and hearing prosthetics are also included. The thesis also includes the issue of aging and the aging process, including social services and facilities for the elderly. The last chapter of the theoretical part deals with the quality of life, explains the established approaches, current models and methods of measurement. In the practical part of the thesis, a combined research was carried out. Data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews with hearing impaired seniors as well as through questionnaires with experts in the field of ENT and phoniatrics. The aim of this research was to find out in which specific areas of the quality of life have the seniors recognized the largest decrease. Research questions were focused, for example, on the ways elderly people with hearing impairment deal with this disorder, on the choice of compensatory aids and on the degree of integration into society in dependence on the hearing impairment. Reading books in pupils with hearing impairment

This diploma thesis deals with the reading of pupils with hearing impairment, popularity of reading books at the 2nd level of primary school for the hearing impaired based on their specifics, which arise from their disability. Firstly, the thesis is devoted to reading literacy and reading in general, its anchoring in education and the view of hearing impairment in two disciplines. The thesis also describes the best-known research on reading literacy and reading. After that, reading and reading literacy topics are closely focused on pupils with hearing impairment, which is also closely related to the issue of acquiring the language of the majority among people with hearing impairment also due to the differences between Czech language and Czech sign language. Furthermore, the analysis of data and interpretation of the results of the research carried out at primary schools for the hearing impaired by means of questionnaires for pupils and their teachers is included. Some of the specifics typical for deaf pupils in relation to reading can be deduced from the outcomes of the research, but also the same elements that were found when compared with the research of reading by the hearing pupils in the Czech Republic.
