Critical Analysis of Language Ideologies in Czech Public Discourse

The thesis deals with language ideologies in Czech public discourse. After introducing its topic, motivation and structure in the opening chapter, it devotes the second chapter to a thorough analysis of the research field of language ideologies. It presents various ways of defining them, two different approaches to them and a few key features which characterize language ideologies. The relation of language ideologies and other related notions is outlined, possibilities and ways of investigation are surveyed. Some remarks focus on existing lists or glossaries of language ideologies. The core of this chapter is an original, complex definition of language ideologies grounded in a critical reflection of approaches up to now. The third chapter summarizes relevant existing findings and on that basis, it formulates the main aim of the thesis - to make a contribution to knowledge on the foundations and ways of conceptualizing language in Czech public discourse. The fourth chapter elaborates the methodological frame of the thesis. Critical discourse analysis is chosen as a basis - its basics are summarized, main critical comments are considered and a partial solutions are proposed in use of corpus linguistics' tools. Ideology in the protectorate daily press discourse

Diploma thesis Ideology in the protectorate daily press discourse deals with the influence of ideology in the discourse of then legally published dailies České slovo, Lidové noviny and Venkov. The theoretical part refers firstly to the historical background of the state formation Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia and its political and social status within the Greater German Reich. After having depicted the demonstrations of 28th October 1939 and the events of 17th November 1939 the media character in the protectorate era is introduced, a special emphasis is put on the press. After that the concept of discourse is clarified as well as its origin, meaning and current interpretation. Besides the critical discourse analysis, its origins, aims and three major approaches are described. The last chapter of the theoretical part is devoted to the discourse-historical approach which was developed by Ruth Wodak and her colleagues from the Vienna School. The ideal procedure of this approach is outlined and the discursive strategies of nomination, predication and argumentation are explained. With their aid an analysis of four newspaper articles is carried out in the practical part of the thesis. Media Discourse on Šumava: Landscape, Man, History

The thesis deals with a critical analysis (CDA) of the texts regarding with the management of the Šumava National Park. Using discourse-historical approach (DHA) it points out the central topics, topoi and concepts comming from the balanced corpus of two tens of texts, which were published in medias or on the intenet between 2008 and 2011. Thanks to the detailed description of context, thesis targets on the mapping of strategies, which the authors use to succeed in the communication and to dominate the discourse. Media education in contemporary Czech language textbooks

Bachelor thesis Media Education in Contemporary Czech Language Textbooks deals with possible incorporation of media education into Czech language teaching using up-to-date textbooks. In the first part it defines basic notions of media literacy and media education and characterizes their main conceptions used in education. It summarizes briefly the shape of media education in Framework Educational Programmes and focuses on its contiguous elements with the subject Czech language and literature. Then it shows that incorporation into Czech language education is really one of the main options of media education realization. In the second part the thesis analyses Czech language textbooks regarding the question to what extent do the textbooks contain media education elements. It finds out that in general the textbooks respect media as a pedagogic theme and it is possible to use them to help integrating some parts of media education into Czech language training.
Politeness in television political discussion

Rigorosum thesis Politeness in Television Political Discussion deals with specific nature of politeness and impoliteness use in mediated political discourse, illustrating it with the Czech Television programme Questions of Václav Moravec. In the first part it defines television political debate as a genre. Then it summarizes development of politeness theories both in world and Czech pragmatic and pragmalinguistic tradition. After synthetising the main conceptions it comes out with its own version of theory of politeness and impoliteness, basing it on Cooperation Principle and politeness theory with utilization of face concept. Then it applies theoretical principles in practical debate analysis and pays attention to the most distinct agents of politeness and impoliteness expression. In conlusion it identifies characteristic regularities of politeness and impoliteness usage in television political discussion and adverts to relevant factors that influence the shape of communication. The rigorosum thesis helps to map the field, in which conflict interferes with cooperation as two antagonistic forces, and explains their interaction by the usage of politeness and impoliteness. This bachelor thesis is focused on evaluation of complexity of a marketing textbook for high school with business focus as a didactic text. In the part Present state of knowledge, the work deals with the importance of performance rating of textbooks and different methodological approaches. In the practical part the market with marketing textbooks for secondary schools with business focus is analysed and an analysis of textbook Marketing by Moudrý, M., which hasn't an approval clause from the Ministry of Education. This thesis contains a review of the evaluated textbook. The analysis of complex degree of difficulty of the text and analysis of didactic equipment of the textbook are used. Textbook is also evaluated in terms of the approval clause of Ministry of Education using the assessment form. Based on the analyzes are given practical recommendations for educational practice.

This Dissertation thesis deals with the issue of consumer behavior in tourism. The main part of this thesis examines the Czech consumers as participants in tourism and their consumer behavior in connection with the purchase and consumption of products of this industry. For examining shopping behavior a qualitative survey among Czech tourists was carried out. Based on the results of the interviews were examined possibilities of different typologies of tourists described in the literature. Totally were examined 12 consumer typologies in tourism. Part of the work is comparison of Czech households spending on package holidays to the average expenditure of the European Union households and analysis of the tourism balance in the Czech Republic. The analysis of tours offered by travel agents for the summer holidays of 2011 was conducted. Based on the results was drawn up a new typology of tourists, which is suitable for application in terms of tourism in the Czech Republic. Marketing recommendations were subsequently made for addressing different types of tourists resulting from introduced typology.

The target of this financial analysis is general assessment of financial position of MADETA, a.s. in years 2003-2008. I used classical methods of financial analysis to this purpose (percentage analysis of financial statements, Du Pont analysis, bankruptcy models, EVA).
