(in English) The diploma thesis closely observes the life story of Václav Smutný (1859 - 1922), a forgotten headmaster, enthusiastic amateur ethnographer, contributor to "Český Lid" and other periodicals, collector, draughtsman and scholar from Sadská. The thesis introduces varied activities, efforts and ingenuity of this "part-time scientist". The achievements of his lifelong work have been interpreted and assessed in a general context.
