Photo-active liquid crystalline materials: effect of lateral substitution far from the chiral center
Mironov, Sergei ; Suchánek, T. ; Marhoul, J. ; Cigl, Martin ; Hamplová, Věra ; Bubnov, Alexej
Photosensitive liquid crystalline (LC) materials give a fascinating possibility to tune and control the optical properties of soft systems distantly by illumination by UV-Vis light. Lateral substitution on the molecular core is an effective tool to tune the behaviour of chiral LCs. The effect of lateral substitution (by F, Cl, Br and methyl group) on the self-assembling behaviour, several new LCs with substituents placed on the benzene ring far from the chiral centre are and studied. All compounds, with exception of Br-substituted one, possess the cholesteric phase. The photosensitive behaviour, in particular the conversion of the E-Z isomers, was studied in toluene solution by HPLC. The kinetics of the photo-isomerization was identified under illumination by UV light. Due to presence of a photo-active azo group these materials can be used as functional dopants for design of smart photo-active liquid crystalline mixtures targeted for various applications in optoelectronics.
Effect of molecular structure on liquid crystalline behaviour for chiral lactic acid derivatives
Mironov, Sergei ; Bubnov, Alexej
Liquid crystals are self-organizing materials that have great potential for practical applications. The relationship <molecular structure - mesomorphic properties> has not been fully established and understood despite numerous studies. We discuss a relatively broad subclass of calamitic chiral lactic acid derivatives and provide specific examples of effective tuning of their mesomorphic and electro-optical behaviour using various types of lateral substitution placed on the molecular core.
XXIV Czech-Polish seminar: Structural and ferroelectric phase transitions: Book of abstracts and program
Pokorný, Jan ; Bubnov, Alexej ; Janovská, Marie
This is the Book of Abstracts for the XXIV Czech-Polish Seminar (CPSEM-2022 conference) held in Harrachov (Czech Republic) on May 23 - 27, 2022. The special objective of the conference is expressed in the conference subtitle: Structural and Ferroelectric Phase Transitions. The continuous worldwide interest to this conference series is proving that it has a respected position within the series of International/European conferences covering all interdisciplinary field of the research related to structural and ferroelectric phase transitions. At the CPSEM-2022 conference there were about 100 participants from 10 countries delivered 8 tutorial lectures for early stage researchers, 8 invited lectures and selected 34 oral contributions. More than 55 posters were presented during two poster sessions.
Topological structures in ferroic materials: Book of Abstracts of the International Workshop TOPO2019
Hlinka, Jiří ; Pokorný, Jan ; Bubnov, Alexej
This is the Book of Abstracts for the International Workshop on Topological Structures in Ferroic Materials (TOPO2019 conference) held in Pruhonice-Prague on June 16-20, 2019. The special objective of the conference is expressed in the conference title: Topological Structures in Ferroic Materials. The continuous worldwide interest to this conference series is proving that it has a respected position within the series of International conferences covering all interdisciplinary field of the research. The fifth TOPO meeting in Prague 2019 was aiming to bring together the forefront science experts as well as young scientists interested in topological aspects of magnetic, superconducting, ferroelectric as well as liquid crystal matter, and mutually benefit from the beauty of the existing unifying scientific perspective. At the TOPO2019 conference more than 90 participants from 20 countries all over the world presented about 50 lectures.\n
XXIII Czech-Polish seminar: Structural and ferroelectric phase transitions
Hlinka, Jiří ; Pokorný, Jan ; Bubnov, Alexej
This is the Book of Abstracts for the XXIII Czech-Polish Seminar (CPSEM-2018 conference) held in Kouty on May 21 - 25, 2018. At the CPSEM-2018 conference more than 110 participants from 14 countries all over the world presented 16 invited lectures and selected 36 oral contributions. About 60 posters were presented during two poster sessions.
FLC-15: Challenges in polar self-assembling systems
Bubnov, Alexej ; Glogarová, Milada
This is the Book of Abstracts for the 15th International Conference on Ferroelectric Liquid Crystals (FLC-15 conference) held in Prague on June 28 - July 3, 2015. The broadening of the field compared to the beginning of this biennial series in 1987 is expressed in the conference subtitle: Challenges in polar self-assembling systems. The continuous worldwide interest to this conference series is proving that it has still a respected position within the series of International/European conferences on liquid crystals covering all interdisciplinary field of the liquid crystal research. At the FLC-15 conference more than 130 participants from 25 countries all over the world will present 5 key-note lectures, 14 invited talks and selected 39 oral contributions. The number has been limited to keep the single session conference format as it is a tradition for the FLC conference series. About 90 posters were presented in two poster sessions. For your convenience, the FLC-15 conference program is presented in this book.
