Analysis of Criginger's maps from Map Collection of Charles University

Analysis of Criginger's maps from Map Collection of Charles University Abstract This bachelor's thesis concerns itself with Criginger's map of Bohemia from 1568. Main objective of this thesis are content analysis and a cartometric analysis of derivates of Criginger's map from the Map Collection of Charles University made by Flemish cartographes Abraham Ortelius, Gerard de Jode and Gerard Mercator and the reproduction of the original map made by Karel Kuchař. Analysis consists of the description of map contents, treatment of map key, analysis of map scale and general cartometric analysis. MapAnalyst software has been used for the indentical spots visualisation. In addition, thesis compares descriptions of settlement on examined maps. Terrain break-lines detection based on Sky View Factor

Terrain Breakline Detection Using Sky-view factor Abstract The subject of this diploma thesis is to propose the procedure of detecting of terrain breaklines using Sky-view factor. The theoretical part of the diploma thesis first introduces the issue of terrain breaklines detection, which presents the methods known to date and Sky- view factor, which is the focal point of the proposed method. Implementation over real data takes place at four locations in the Czechia (Vítkovice, Hradiště, Strnady and Velenka). Data in the form of raster format is tested. At the end, the results of the proposed method and its verification using two selected methods of field edge detection are presented and evaluated. Simplification of buildings based on typification Abstract The diploma thesis is focused on cartographic generalization. Its main aim was to develop a new method of simplification of buildings based on typification for areas with lower density of buildings (rural or mountain areas). The proposed method was designed for large scale maps (1 : 25 000 and 1 : 50 000). The presented generalization algorithm is based on preferential selection of buildings to be drawn on the map according to their civic importance, area and location towards roads, railways and streams. It respects cartographic rules used for this type of generalization. The algorithm was implemented in the Python programming language using the Shapely and Fiona libraries for a purpose of its proper testing. The ZABAGED and DATA50 data were chosen as suitable test data. Among other things, this thesis also introduces the evaluation method of typification results, which uses Voronoi diagram. Achieved results are presented on maps of fifteen villages with different spatial structure in both targeted scales. Automation of "contour method" for cliff drawing Abstract This thesis deals with the design of automated creation of cartographic representation of rocks - specifically contour methods. Based on the study of the rules of this method and its use on analog maps, rules for its processing in digital cartography were designed and an algorithm for automated creation of this representation was designed and implemented. The algorithm is based on the design of the contour method described in the study Topographic mapping of rock formations with the use of airborne laser scanning data by J. Lysák (2016) and the output data of the study Sandstone landscapes in GIS by M. Tomková (2015). The algorithm was implemented in the form of Python scripts using the arcpy library. The thesis also includes testing the algorithm on data from sandstone areas in the Czech Republic. key words: rocks formations, visualization of hypsography , digital cartography, contour method
The creation of the Historical atlas of the Battle of Königgrätz

The goal of this thesis is to create a historical atlas of the Battle of Königgrätz. The theoretical part describes rules, concepts and methods of the thematic cartography, followed by a research of printed historical atlases, which served as an inspiration for the author. The last section of the theoretical part deals with the introduction to the Battle of Königgrätz itself. In the practical part, an appropriate methodological creation process is proposed based on the acquired knowledge. The key part of the process is working with historical maps from the Map Collection of the Faculty of Science of Charles University as well as with historical literature. The outcome of the thesis is the aforementioned historical atlas of the Battle of Königgrätz, which shows the spatial distribution of armies during the battle using chronologically ordered maps and provides basic information regarding the causes, course, consequences and key moments of the conflict. Making a historical map set of battle at Chlumec 1813

Goal of this thesis is to make map set of battle at Chlumec (near Ústí nad Labem), where Napoleon's general Vandamme was defeated by retreating coalition armies at the end of August 1813. Main data source are old map of battle at Chlumec, gained from Map repository of Charles University, and layer of contour line from ZABAGED. After evaluating methods of making historic maps process for making maps of battles is designed. Several maps of the course of battle are made where only position of soldiers in time is different and also several maps of some commanders' views in particular moments of battle are made. Based on the finished maps evaluation and discussion are made, if battle could end otherwise or why it took place the way how we know it.
The analysis of battle maps of the Battle of Lovosice

The analysis of battle maps of the battle of Lovosice Abstract The bachelor thesis deals with the content analysis of old battle maps. At the beginning of this thesis there are analyzed important concepts on the topic and methods of content analysis of old maps. In the next step there are described the battle maps and there is also carried out a detailed analysis of the battle conflict at Lovosice. In the practical part, based on the information obtained from the previous chapters, there is content analysis of the six battle maps dealing with the Battle of Lovosice, which come from the Map Collection of the Faculty of Science. The maps are then compared and evaluated in terms of content and historical accuracy. In the second part of the practical research is described the procedure in the creation of a new historical map of the Battle of Lovosice, which used the knowledge from the content analysis.
