ŠMÍD, Marek
The diploma thesis will focus on the life and work of bishop Simon Barta (1864-1940) in the period 1920-1940, when this Church dignitary headed the diocese of Ceske Budejovice. It will be based on the sources of the central and regional archives, which, with the knowledge of the specialized literature, will put Barth's life in the historical and religious context of the First and Second Czechoslovak Republic and the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, and reconstructing the bishop's activity. The student will work with analytic-synthetic, comparative and heuristic methods that will allow him to plastically portray Barth's action in an adequate religious context of the history of the 20th century.

Lateran Treaty in the Mirror of Czechoslovak Diplomatic Correspondence
Jireš, Pavel ; Šmíd, Marek (advisor) ; Petráček, Tomáš (referee)
The bachelor thesis will be aimed to the reflection of the diplomatic contacts between the Vatican and fascist Italy in the second half of 1920s. These contacts led both states to signing the Lateran treaty in February 1929. The Lateran treaty was made of the system of smaller covenants that held international, concorde and financial agreements. It will like to pursue the analysis of their negotiations, acceptance and application in Italy where the Lateran treaty by its content made the future way of the relationship between the Catholic church and fascist Italy goverment. Short after its public declaration and ratification the Catholic church begun to open to the world again and the Pope stopped proclaiming himself as a prisoner. The popes kept saying that since Rome was sacked and taken by the army of Victor Emanuel I. On the other hand the relationship beetween the Pope and Benito Mussolini stayed, or as the matter of fact between the Vatican and Italy, pretty low because the treaty did not solve everything. The reflection will mostly follow the messages of the Czechoslovak diplomatic ambassador Vladimír Radimský who wrote in his diplomatic lists to Prague his opinions about the Lateran treaty. These diplomatic list will create the very heart of the bachelor thesis.
Perestroika and its reflection in Russian and Czech society and culture
Kuksin, Artem ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Šmíd, Marek (referee)
In my bachelor's thesis I would like to focus on one of the key historical events in the history of the Soviet Union known as Perestrojka. I want to answer the questions as what were people of late socialism in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and in the Soviet Union, what was difference about their perception of the present and future and how Zeitgeist -the spirit of the time at the end of the century was perceived in culture. As a necessary part of my work, I consider the personality analysis of Mikhail Gorbachev - the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, his economic and social policy, describing the peculiarities of regimes and social relations in years 1985-1989.
Augustin Komanec (1885-1953)
Hlava, Luděk ; Kubín, Petr (advisor) ; Šmíd, Marek (referee)
This thesis deals with the life story of Augustin Komanec, dean of Slaný, a man standing among many other anonymous priests who were persecuted for their firm human and Christian attitudes towards the Church and its bishops in the early 1950's. Augustin Komanec was one of those tried by the totalitarian communist regime in fabricated trials. He was not sentenced to death, nevertheless the stiffness of the punishment led to the ultimate sacrifice. He died soon after he had been sent to the communist prison in Mírov. Based on documents available, the work presents Komanec's both civil and clerical life from 1885 to 1948 and then from the communist coup to his death in 1953. The aim of the work is to present the destiny of this brave person, who refused to give in to the totalitarian power and who represented the real enemy of this power: the Church, courageous and free.
