Entrance knowledge and ideas about selected non-European countries among 6th grade elementary school pupils
SAMEC, Martin
The thesis deals with the entrance knowledge and ideas of the sixth-grade pupils of elementary schools about non-European countries. The aim of the thesis is to map the level of knowledge that pupils of the sixth grades have before they learn about the given states within the geography. To fulfil the aim of the thesis, research using a questionnaire was carried out in the sixth grades of elementary schools, in which 489 pupils participated. In addition to mapping specific knowledge and ideas about the given states, the questionnaire was aimed at finding differences between this knowledge based on the type of schools, their location in cities or villages, and based on the gender of the respondents. Attention is also paid to the pupils' self-evaluation focused on their knowledge, pupils' sympathies for the countries and the sources from which the pupils learn information about the world. The thesis evaluates all the results found and their comparison and subsequent interpretation takes place. The analytical part is then followed by a practical part, which provides concrete ideas on how to use the conducted research in geography lessons. The practical part contains materials based on established facts about the pupils' entrance knowledge, which are aimed at strengthening and expanding them.
