In this bachelor thesis I aim to analyze the development of relations between the northern and southern Mediterranean. I focus on monitoring the approach of individual European countries to their neighbors in the Mediterranean and the adopting of a common policy by the EC/EU towards the Mediterranean. From Brussels' perspective and starting with the Barcelona Process and also in the Union for the Mediterranean this concept has many advantages: the southern and eastern Mediterranean countries have always been closely connected to Europe. They represent a greater objective than the rest of the region economically, politically and also in terms of European security. In the last chapter I focus on the latest political developments in the Arab world and how they could affect the approach of the EU towards the region. I use official EU sources, textbooks by doc. Ing. Cihelková, statistical data from UNCTAD and newspaper articles concerning recent news in Arab countries.
