Komiksy dnes nejsou jen odsuzovaným anebo nadšeně konzumovaným artiklem zábavního průmyslu, ale také na mnoha úrovních reflektovaným fenoménem, který se podílel na utváření moderní americké i evropské kultury a historie. Vedle stále narůstajícího množství detailních historiografických rešerší i monografických studií vznikají velmi žádaná přehledová shrnutí dějin komiksu. Today comics are not only depreciated or acclaimed items of show business, but they also in many cases reflect facts that contributed to the formation of both American and European culture and history.
