Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na analýzu toho, jakým způsobem byly v Rudém právu během vybraných úseků vietnamské války vyobrazovány Spojené státy. Práce se zaměřuje na roky 1966 (USA již ve válce), 1968 (ofenzíva Tet) a 1969 (Nixon prezidentem, smrt Ho Či Mina) a zkoumá, jaký obraz si mohl o USA na základě těchto období udělat československý čtenář. Dále pak sleduje, jaké jsou rozdíly mezi objektivním vylíčením těchto historických událostí a jejich mediálním pokrytím v Rudém právu. Ve své práci pracuji s předpokladem, že Rudé právo o válce ve Vietnamu neinformovalo objektivně, ale naopak podléhalo komunistické propagandě. Zároveň se zajímám i o to, jakými prostředky dosahovalo Rudé právo subjektivního popisu těchto událostí. In my thesis I analyse how the United States was depicted in Rudé právo during selected stretches of the Vietnam War. I focus on 1966 (the US already at war), 1968 (the Tet offensive) and 1969 (Nixon as president, the death of Ho Chi Minh) and I explore what image a Czechoslovak reader might have made of the US based on those periods. Next, I observe the differences between the objective portrayal of these historical events and their media coverage in Rudé právo. In my work I assume that Rudé právo did not inform about the Vietnam War objectively, but was instead subject to Communist propaganda. At the same time, I am also interested in the means by which Rudé právo obtained a subjective description of these events.
