Tématem disertační práce jsou partnerské vztahy mužů a žen středních městských vrstev české společnosti druhé poloviny 19. století. Pozornost je věnována všem etapám (před)manželského vztahu. V práci jsou reflektovány ideální modely partnerských protějšků, strategie nalézání a volby partnera, prožívání období namlouvání, změny zapříčiněné sňatkem a příchodem dětí. Zpracována je také diskuse o reformě manželství probíhající na počátku 20. století mezi představiteli katolické církve a jejich oponenty. Součástí práce je problematika rozvodu a manželské rozluky, prožívání vdovství a vdovectví. Kromě ego- dokumentů tvoří pramennou základnu zejména preskriptivní literatura, společenské katechismy, dobová odborná literatura a periodický tisk. The theme of the thesis is the partnership between men and women in the second half of the 19th century, on the example of the middle classes in the Czech society. Attention is paid to all stages of relationships before marriage as well as of the marital relationship. The thesis dwells on the development of an ideal partner, the strategy of finding and choosing one, periods of courtesy, and changes of the relationship caused by marriage and the arrival of children. Discussion on the reform of the institution of marriage in the early 20th century between representatives of the Catholic Church and their opponents is also included. One part of the thesis deals with the issue of divorce, marital separation, as well as widowhood. In addition to ego-documents the main sources for the theses were prescriptive literature, social catechisms, periodicals and specialised and academic literature of the period.
