Příspěvek podává charakteristiku Šimákovy rozsáhlé vědecké i popularizační činnosti a jeho kariérního postupu. Zaměřuje se na jeho těžkosti při dosažení řádné profesury historické vlastivědy československého státu na Karlově univerzitě (1921). Přibližuje také, jak má podle J. V. Šimáka vypadat historik. The study deals with research works of the first Professor of Historical National Studies of Prague Czech University, J. V. Šimák (1870-1941).
