Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá proměnami ve vztahu mezi USA a Vietnamem. Monitoruje situaci před navázáním oficiálních styků, analyzuje kontext, v němž ke změnám postupně docházelo. Vietnam byl po skončení války de facto 20 let v izolaci a dlouho trpěl sociálními i ekonomickými důsledky války, ale během prezidentství Baracka Obamy se proměnil ve strategického partnera USA. Práce se snaží objasnit, jaké vztahy panují mezi oběma zeměmi v současnosti, a podat nástin podmínek panujících uvnitř vietnamské společnosti, k čemuž byli využiti tři respondenti původem z Vietnamu. Práce si klade dále za cíl odpovědět na otázky, jak se z nenáviděného nepřítele může stát partner a jaké politické, společenské, ekonomické ale i geopolitické okolnosti jsou k tomu nezbytné. V první části práce nabízí stručný historický souhrn, ve druhé, obsáhlejší a podstatnější části se věnuje současné situaci ve Vietnamu a změnám, jež se udály mezi oběma zeměmi na diplomatickém i ekonomickém poli od konce války (1975) a především v posledních dvou desetiletích (tedy od navázání diplomatických styků v roce 1995). This thesis deals with the transformation of the american-vietnamese relations after the Vietnam War. The work monitors the situation prior to the official establishment of diplomatic relations, analyses the international context essential for those changes. After the war, Vietnam was techically isolated for 20 years and for a long time suffered by both the social and economic ramifications of the conflict. However, during the presidency of Barack Obama Vietnam turned into a strategic partner. The thesis aims to clarify the current relations and also offer an extensive outline of the present situation inside the Vietnamese society - for that reason, 3 respondents originally from Vietnam were questioned. The thesis also aims to answer the following questions: how a hated enemy could possibly become a partner and under what circumstances (political, social, economic and also geopolitical) are needed. The first part of the paper offers a brief history overview, in the second, more extensive and more important one, the paper deals with current situation in Vietnam and diplomatic and economic changes that happened after the war had ended and mainly after the official ties were established.
