SOUHRN Chrupavka žeber patří podobně jako chrupavka kloubní, štítná a tracheální do skupiny tzv. permanentních chrupavek, tedy chrupavek, které neosifikují nebo podléhají pouze nekompletní osifikaci. Osifikace kaudálních žeberních chrupavek (chrupavek 2. - 10. žebra), podobně jako chrupavka kloubní, je dosud považována za projev degenerace, přestože chrupavky tracheální, štítná, ale i chrupavka 1. žebra podle recentních studií osifikují fyziologicky. Osifikace žeberních chrupavek začíná v různém věku a vyskytuje se jen u určitého procenta lidí. Podoba osifikačních změn je u mužů a žen odlišná. Přestože byla otázka etiologie a zejména výskytu osifikací v různých populacích centrem vědeckého zájmu mnoha studií a chrupavčitá tkáň byla studována v posledních desetiletích velmi intenzivně také na mikroskopické úrovni, zůstává řada těchto otázek prozatím bez přesvědčivé a jednoznačné odpovědi. Vzhledem k heterogenitě a rozporuplnosti literárních údajů a nedostatečnému množství informací v naší literatuře jsme se rozhodli vyhodnotit výskyt osifikací žeberních chrupavek ve vzorku české populace, ověřit existenci pohlavního dimorfismu osifikací a zdokumentovat vývoj osifikačních změn na mikroskopické úrovni a tím přispět k lepšímu pochopení procesu osifikace v hyalinní chrupavce lidských žeber. Naší studii jsme... The costal cartilages belong to the group of the permanent cartilages, as well as thyroid, tracheal and the articular cartilages. These cartilages ossify incompletly or do not ossify at all. The ossification of the caudal costal and the articular cartilages is considered to be a manifestation of degeneration, although according to the recent studies the ossification of the thyroid, the tracheal and the first rib cartilages is physiological. The costal cartilage ossification begins at a different age but only in a certain percentage of people. The female and the male pattern of ossification is different. Although the etiology and the occurence of ossification in various populations were studied very deeply, even at the microscopic level, still a lot of questions are not ansvered. Due to the heterogeneity and insuficiency of the data in the Czech literature we decided to evaluate the incidence of the costal cartilage ossification in the sample of the Czech population. We decided to verify the presence of the sexual dimorfism of the ossification and describe the development of the ossification changes at the microscopic level for better understanding of the ossification of human costal cartilage.
