Předmětem této diplomové práce je jednak vytvoření přehledu základních ekonomických teorií, které se pokoušejí vysvětlit proč firmy na zahraničním trhu přímo investují, tedy determinanty přímých zahraničních investic. Po věcné stránce se jedná o popsání typologie zahraničních investic, motivace investorů, lokalizačních faktorů, atraktivity prostředí hostitelské země a její měření, formy zahraničních investic v hostitelské zemi. Obsahuje rovněž analýzu metodologických a dalších problémů statistického sledování zahraničních investic. Podrobně osvětleny jsou tři rámce bez nichž by širší uplatnění fenoménu zahraničních investic v české ekonomice nebylo vůbec představitelné, a které jsou tím nejpodstatnějším základem pro navazující dílčí lokalizační faktory a jsou základem ovlivňujícím všechny segmenty zahraničních investic. Jde o zahraničně politické faktory, dále potom o faktory vnitropolitické, a ve stejné míře i o proces ekonomické transformace v Česku. Analytická pozornost mapuje souvislosti vývoje zahraničních investic a vybraných makroukazatelů české ekonomiky. Zkoumání těchto kontextů ukazuje, že na jedné straně zahraniční investice jistě mají určitý vliv na vývoj některých makroukazatelů, ovšem zdaleka ne vždy jej lze kvantifikovat a mnohdy ani jen odhadnout jeho směr. Na straně druhé je častokrát obtížné prokázat vliv makroekonomického vývoje na intenzitu přílivu zahraničních investic do České republiky. Subject of this diploma thesis is to provide an overview of economic theories on why companies tend to invest at foreign markets directly and thus to determine the foreign direct investment (FDI) itself. Covered areas include a foreign direct investment typology, motivation to invest, localisation factors, attractiveness and measurement of a host country business environment. Various types of FDI, methodology and forms of FDI statistical coverage analysis is included in the thesis. Three frameworks influencing all the segments of the FDI are covered in depth. These include the foreign policy factors, domestic policy factors and a process of economic transformation in the Czech Republic. Corresponding analytics map a development between a FDI and selected macroeconomic indicators of the Czech Republic. The analysis shows that foreign investment has a certain influence over selected macroeconomic indicators, however it is not always possible to quantify it as well as to predict its trend. On the other side it is often difficult to prove an influence of macroeconomic development on intensity of the FDI inflow to the Czech Republic.
