Bakalářská práce se zabývá programem Války proti chudobě, který prezident Lyndon Baines Johnson vyhlásil v rámci své koncepce Velké společnosti v šedesátých letech 20. století v USA. Hlavním cílem práce je analyzovat zavedené programy na boj proti chudobě a zhodnotit jejich dopad na chudou i nechudou část americké společnosti. Během Johnsonovy vlády absolutní chudoba ve Spojených státech prokazatelně klesla, relativní chudoba však zůstala téměř nezměněna. Ukazatele absolutní chudoby také mohl z velké části ovlivnit hospodářský růst. Několik demografických skupin však z Johnsonovy snahy bezesporu profitovalo a řada zavedených programů zůstává populární dodnes. This bachelor thesis deals with the program of War on Poverty declared by president Lyndon Baines Johnson as part of his vision of the Great Society in the sixties in the United States. The main objective of this thesis is to analyze the estabilished programs to fight poverty and evaluate their impact on the poor and nonpoor parts of the American society. Absolute poverty in the United States demostrably fell during Johnson's presidency but relative poverty remained largely unaffected. Absolute poverty indicators could have also been affected by economic growth. Several demographical groups undoubtedly profited from Johnson's programs, though, and many programs remain popular to this day.
