Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje určení významu médií při humanitárních krizích. Konkrétně se věnuje příkladu srílanského konfliktu a vlivu tzv. CNN efektu. Cílem práce je potvrdit nebo vyvrátit souvislost mezi jednáním americké a britské administrativy ohledně poslední závěrečné fáze srílanského konfliktu na počátku roku 2009 a mediálním pokrytím téhož. Práce je rozdělena do tří kapitol. První kapitola je čistě úvodní. Druhá kapitola se věnuje CNN efektu jako takovému. Je zde popsán vznik a vývoj tohoto teoretického konceptu, definice a souhrn toho, jak se o něm doposud psalo a jaké jsou nejvýznamnější tituly. Třetí, nejobsáhlejší kapitola, zahrnuje praktickou aplikaci CNN efektu na příkladu humanitární krize na Srí Lance a působení médií na představitele USA a Velké Británie. This bachelor thesis deals with the role of the media during humanitarian crisis. Concretely, it concerns the case study of Sri Lankan conflict and the influence of so-called CNN effect. The aim of this bachelor thesis is either to confirm or dis-confirm the connection between the media and actions of the american and british governments over Sri Lanka's conflict in the beginning of year 2009. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part is only introductory. The second part is devoted to CNN effect itself. This chapter describes the evolution of the theoretical concept of CNN effect, definition and the summary of the literature about it. The third chapter, the most extensive one, consists of the practical application of the CNN effect to Sri Lanka's conflict.
